Remember Mad Magazine? Al Jaffee, the creator of it, died last month at 102 years old.

I'll never forget the cover of the 1961 issue. It's going to be a mad year!

Turned upside down it was still 1961...

Mad Mag was not allowed in my house and suffice to say neither was Cracked.

I never really got involved with Mad, although I do remember reading it.

Besides being funny, it was the proverbial "forbidden fruit!"

They did a fantastic job on a version of The Night Before Christmas or at least it was to a 12 year old.

That was definitely something adults frowned upon.

That sounds like typical 1960s-speak.

LOL, The Untouchables and The Three Stooges were also taboo for many.

I started reading Mad in 1954 when it was a comic book. I did miss the first few issues though.

I was not allowed to have a Mad magazine in our house because my father said it "made the average American look like an idiot." Needless to say, I found ways to acquire and read the magazine without my parents knowing...same with Playboy, a few years later.

Me too...went for that straight away.

Mad was great...but the taboo magazine was National Lampoon.

My Mom picked up a copy from the back seat of my Nova....the 'centerfold' was two naked midgets.

WTH? Dad just looked at it...smiled and walked off...and that was that. I miss that rag.

Without “Mad” and “National Lampoon,” the 60s and 70s would’ve not been half as fun.
