Have any of you tried Microsoft’s Phone Link? It lets you sync your cellphone and computer. I wonder how necessary it is and if there are downsides.

It might be useful, if you used one computer for most of your work. For me, eight plus hours with a work computer, and too many personal computers with different setups, so I am not always using the one and only, it does not help.
It did not always stay connected, when I tried it, several years, and an old computer, even then.
May be better, with recent hardware.

Jerry, I use it all the time. Especially when doing text messages. I am a lot faster with a large keyboard. It also lets me grab photos from my computer to send them. Oh and I really don't like to text. Things can get easily lost in the translation.

Thanks. Are you in England?

I think New Jersey could barely be considered New England.

Today, had to work overnight due to software installs.

I use it often to answer and make calls when my phone is on the other side of the room. Texting is an iffy thing though. I find texting photos from the computer's huge image file system wonderful, but the phone is best when it is tethered and logged into.

I got up at 4:15, and I'm not at my best. Your screen name made me think of England. I also have England on my mind because my son's there for a couple of weeks.

I chose ctrclckws in the 80's for Compuserve. It's short for counterclockwise, because I've always liked clocks running backwards.
Saw my first barber clock when I was very young.
A barbershop clock was reversed, so it looked correct in the mirror.

As I said, my mind wasn't fully engaged, and I confused "Ctr" with "anti," the way the English say "counterclockwise" - "anticlockwise." Now, I'm awake.

I think that's going to be my story, too.

I use it to type long text messages on a real keyboard. You can reply to messages sent to you from non-contacts, but you can only type new messages to phones that are on your contact list. It doesn't keep messages for longer than 30 days, but older messages are still on your phone. It works best if you have your phone next to your computer. The bluetooth connection becomes pretty weak with distance, and the synch time gets longer.
