I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING TEXT MESSAGE ON MY CELL PHONE:

We have successfully processed your order under the ID "JJ915331", and a charge of $617 has been applied to your card. any inquiries, contact us +18044511450

I REPLIED WITH:

You have reached the telephone number of a Federal Law Enforcement Officer. You must delete this number, never call this number again and never share it with anyone. This is your only warning. You will be prosecuted to the full extent of Law.

Now that the COVID cloud has lifted the number of scams will increase. We must be ever so vigilant to prevent thieves from reaching into our pockets.

Two other examples I have experienced. I received a bill from a doctor from two years ago. I didn’t even recognize the doctor’s name. Two years ago I hired an attorney to finalize my will. He was paid in full. I received a bill for $75 for FedEx charges. Something is wrong because I pay my bills in full at the time they are due. I always ask to confirm the final cost.

More and more scams will continue as thieves become desperate.
I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING TEXT MESSAGE ON MY CELL P... (show quote)

I posted this scam alert several years ago. This is so insidious I thought I should remind everyone of the dangers out there.

Women often receive warnings about protecting themselves at the mall and in dark parking lots, etc. This is the first warning I have seen for men. I wanted to pass it on in case you haven't heard about it. This will only become more commonplace as the weather warms.

A 'heads up' for those men who may be regular Lowe's, Home Depot, or Costco customers. This one caught me by surprise.

Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.

Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking 20-something girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' and instead ask you for a ride to McDonalds.

You agree and they get into the back seat. On the way, they start undressing. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet. I had my wallet stolen November 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 24th, & 29th. Also December 1st & 4th, twice on the 8th, 16th, 23rd, 26th & 28th, three times last Monday and very likely again this upcoming weekend.

So tell your friends to be careful. What a horrible way to take advantage of older men. Warn your friends to be vigilant.

Wal-Mart has wallets on sale for $2.99 each. I found cheaper ones for $1.99 at K- Mart and bought them out. Also, you never will get to eat at McDonalds. I've already lost 11 pounds just running back and forth to Lowe's, Home Depot, and Costco.

If you ain’t in my contacts my iPhone sends the number to spam folder. Problem is, I have several doctors offices that must have at least 5 - 10 numbers. So I have to check the number before I block them.

Yup.
CT scan scheduling dept, ...
If I suspect it, I let it go to voice mail. If it's real, they will leave a message. I usually Google the number also.
Like you, I add certain numbers to my cell for ID the next time it comes in, even though I most likely will not call that number.

What we did after a conversation with a techie friend of mine is set up a VPN on our android phones. Whenever we’re out and about where we might hook up with a public and/or non-secure Wi-Fi, we turn on the VPN.

Luckily, we don't use our phones a lot. When out and about I just go through my carrier, no local WIFI, except on occasion hotels that are <supposed to be> secure.

When I get phone calls from unknown numbers or without a caller ID name, I sometimes answer with, "What is this robocall scam about?" Nearly every time there is no response and I hang up. Very seldom, I get a response that identifies the caller as legit and I'll gather more information.

That's a good way to ensure you get a lot more robocalls.

Although sometimes if I feel like it I will answer with "Stan's Hitman Service, you send 'em we end 'em. Now who can we get rid of for you today?" Or sometimes, if the caller is female, I say something like, "That sounds great but before we get into that, [in a conspiratorial whisper] are you wearing anything lacy or frilly?" Those virtually always result in the call ending.

My wife got one the other day. Ama-Zon charged $500+ to your account for a Nikon. She checked on line with Amazon and they said it was not from them.

I don’t answer a call from a number I don’t recognize. If it’s important, they’ll leave a message.
