Interesting set of images. I'm sure the animals were disoriented!
The awesome power of Mother Nature, she destroys but rebuilds once again albeit in a reshaped landscape. Great documentation on your part!
I clearly remember that day. Remembered turning on the TV after seeing the ongoing eruption and was shocked by the photos of the mudflows and destruction. Thanks for sharing the images.

There was a Boy Scout Camp on the opposite side of Spirit Lake from the mountain. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been. That was my scout camp two summers in a row in the late 60s. I remember having to capsize my canoe as part of earning that merit badge and how cold the water was.
When St. Helen's erupted, my wife and I were living in Eugene, Oregon. Our oldest son was 11 months old (he is now almost 44 and has 4 teenage boys). We had visited Portland just a couple of weeks before and looked at the mountain from there. There was a plume of smoke and ash on the snow, as the volcano had been active for a few weeks.
The morning of the eruption (a Sunday, I believe), my mother called to tell me to turn on the news on TV. A surreal experience that morning.
FYI.....unfortunately a very recent mudflow has created limited access to all of the viewing area. Recommend checking the website before driving out there.

I wonder what the landscape looks like today?
This was shot in 2022. Yes things have changed since she blew her top, but there is still a long ways to go.

Also 2022, the farther you get from the mountain the more recovery you see.

Those are amazing scenes.

Five days after St Helens blew it's top, I went down and flew over Spirit Lake in a Chinook helicopter. Here are a few of the shots I got. I shot B&W which didn't really matter because everything was gray anyway.
Wow!
B&W sucked as much then as it does now.
Amazing series, nature at her worst

Truly spectacular results 💙🤎💙🤎💙
I was there about 15 years ago and the downed trees were still evident.

Historic work, thanks for sharing.
I was working a agate mine near Ashwood Oregon a week before the blast. From the pit you could see the upper one thousand feet of St. Helens. It was surreal to look over there when we returned to the mine to see nothing but sky.
