Way back (in the 70's) on the am radio in my car, there was a thing about Karen that they were talking about. Seems that one of her music teachers told her she didn't have a voice. I learned later that most successful, talented people get this same thing.
I got married to her music. She was top-notch and the world (and us) lost a great musician
With her premature departure which totally shocked her fans and so many of the countless lives she had touched with her compelling poignant musical offerings Karen became a Poster Child for Anorexia Nervosa. Thus possibly her final massive triumph was to bring a huge awakening and awareness to a little know or understood lethal disease; Anorexia Nervosa.
Her passing was one of the seminal moments in our culture which brought an acute focus on a disease that had previously been relegated to the shadows. During this period the appearance of a social contagion body dysmorphia was primarily responsible for the spread of Anorexia Nervosa which in Karen's case her obsessive need to appear thin on stage led to congestive heart failure due to lethal complications from anorexia.
Even today, a multitude of naive innocent pubescent girls are becoming victim to yet another social contagion, gender dysphoria. The parallels here are more than frightening...“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – George Santayana
RIP Karen Carpenter... and please rest assured you are not forgotten... still missing you...
