Decided to give your suggestion a try...fooled around with it for 20 minutes and this is what resulted with a slight amount of tint added. Still prefer the color version. If you want to give it a go, go ahead!!

The black and white has certain starkness to it. Both are good.

Both are very nice,, I prefer the black and white. Somehow, it looks more nostalgic to me.
