Regardless of how many times I organize my tool boxes, the tool I need at the moment is always on the bottom of others.

I think what you and I need is a tool box which opens on both ends! 😳

I have a tool box in my truck. Whenever I needed a tool I had to pull everything out to find it. So I bought pouches to put wrenches in, screwdrivers, and so on. So all I have to do is now is find the pouch.

This is my method as well!

It's not just a method, it's one of the Universal Laws of Nature. (Some believe it's actually a corollary of Murphy's Law.)

That sounds like a good idea. Can you describe the pouches? Amazon search just comes up with tool belts and organizers with open pockets. Thanks.

Here’s one solution - only $13.95 (plus a 5 gal bucket) at Lowes. 26 pouches.

I have two. The first has the conglomerations of small wrenches, screwdrivers and such. The second box has the heavy duty wrenches and oversized other stuff.

I like the idea of some small plastic (see through) boxes for some small stuff that tends to get lost easily. Looks like I'm cleaning out my first tool box in the next few days.

Throw the tools away and use the box as a flowerpot.

Looking for ideas for organizing a toolbox. I have an old toolbox, similar to the one pictured below, in which I have dumped a collection of hand tools accumulated over the years. Problem is any time I need something it seems like it's at the bottom of the box and I need to pull everything out to find what I'm looking for. My tool collection is fairly basic - philips and flat head screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, tape measure, glue, scissors, a small level, assorted nuts, bolts and screws, etc.

Depends on how many tools you have. My car came with a tool kit that comprises a piece of cloth with a few pockets and the whole thing rolls up like a burrito and fastens with Velcro straps. You might be able to find something like that at an auto parts store.

Nice, useful kit. Mercedes? Volvo? Saab?

You will never have a fully organized system, no matter what you try, unless you are compulsively into being organized. That does not describe me, certainly! But I know exactly where 80% of my tools are. Either in one of two toolboxes, or on a peg board, or on my workbench, or in the shed, or ...??? It's around here somewhere!

It’s the blue cloth pouch (I’ve owned 3 Mercedes)
