Or, if there is an address and you are adventuresome, pick up the whole works in a lawn bag, look them up, and return to sender in the night.

I like that approach! The problem is with the kind of people that would dump trash on someone else's property, if you did take it back to them and dumped it in their yard, it would most likely not be noticed. It would just blend in!

A long time ago I had a manufacturing building that was next to a highway embankment. Twice every day we had to clean-up our property because people would throw their trash and garbage over the embankment. We filled-up a large dumpster twice a week with othe peoples' garbage. Sometimes it was rotting and stinky.

Would an 8' fence have been the answer?

My uncle owned a farm in upstate NY and worked for the railroad, leaving for NYC on Sunday night and returning on Friday night. One weekend he found a load of trash on his rural, one-lane road; there were a number of envelopes in the trash (all with the same address). The address was just a few blocks from the rail yard, where he stayed during the week. After work one day, he took the load of trash to the address, rang the doorbell, and just dropped the trash on the stairs in front of the house and walked away. Someone took a load of trash from the Bronx and dumped it in rural Columbia County, upstate NY. My uncle swore that this story was true.

I live on the Southern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Often I will take a bucket and grabber and remove trash from the beach behind my house and also in both directions. The bucket has in very large font, "THANKS FOR NOT LITTERING". Sometimes when I get close to a group of people, they will start picking up their trash. Over the 20 years I have been doing this, the amount of trash and garbage has significantly decreased. I suppose the regulars get the message which is a nice message of thanks.

The train ride from NJ to DC is depressing, huge amounts of garbage.

At a red light someone dropped a cigarette on the ground. I then dropped it in his back seat. Youth and Starbucks.

So, I'm photographing the Ceylon Bridge, a Howe Truss covered bridge built in 1862, located in Geneva, Indiana, enjoying the sunshine, moderate weather, and the site to myself, taking shots from varied locations when this navy blue panel truck pulls into the parking area adjacent to the covered bridge, stops quicky, rolls down his window, and begins to toss his litter (including food) onto the parking lot like it was a land fill. I started moving quickly toward the truck, yelling at the top of my lungs to get his attention, as he finished his deposit and speed off onto the county roadway. As I am standing in the lot fuming, a police car comes down the road and responds to my yelling and thrashing my hands in the air for attention, and sure enough he sees me and whips into the stoned lot where I was standing. I briefly told his what happened and he quickly headed down the road in pursuit. A few minutes I finished my self-imposed assignment and traveled down the same road as the offender and the police used, but never ran into either one of them. I was still hot under the collar as I left Geneva, but I had to travel some distance to Matthews, Indiana to photograph the Cumberland Matthews Covered Bridge, another Howe Truss build of 1877, so I could not linger any longer in Geneva Just never know what a day with a camera will bring.

Did you use your camera or is this a general rant?

There was an absolutely beautiful covered bridge in NW Pennsylvania. About 8 years ago vandals set it on fire. It could not be saved. It was replaced by an ugly concrete and steel bridge. It had been there about 120 years.

The Cumberland Matthew Covered Bridge built in 1877 is 181 feet long and is a Howe truss construction spanning the Mississinewa River. Very photogenetic. I used my Nikon D850 with my 16-35 F4 lens. Took some great shots on a partially overcast day. I am on a mission to photograph all 98 covered bridges in Indiana. Have 18 so far.

You are lucky that they didn't get out and beat the crap out of you and take your camera.

Well, I've been in two bar fights in my life, and I was the victor in both. I know just enough Karate to be dangerous. I would have welcomed the challenge. I was really mad!
