This Common Yellowthroat hit my house window, fell to the ground then a minute later took off and hit another nearby window. I thought the bird was dead but a few minutes later it up-righted itself, then around 15 minutes later it managed to fly away. Before it launched, I carefully positioned myself to capture this shot, being cautious to not startle the bird and make it fly prematurely.
My limited research indicates it best to leave a stunned bird where it falls rather than pick it up and try to assist. I suppose if you have cats around it might be better to carefully relocate a stunned bird.
I have tried applying decals to my windows and using shades but invariably birds hit my windows, particularly during migrations. I hate it when this happens, and I can only imagine how many times it occurs.
Happily, this encounter ended on a good note. I hope this beauty survives.

Beautiful bird and image! So glad the bird managed to survive.

You are correct about letting birds recover on their own. As much as we might want to help, there is really nothing we can do except make sure it is safe. The caution regarding cats applies to dogs also. I have had many birds hit my sliding glass door. Usually, but not always, you can tell when they are dead.
Glad this one survived.

This Common Yellowthroat hit my house window, fell... (

We have things, like wind chimes, hanging outside our windows which has stopped the birds from flying into them.

Thanks for the info, and posting a great photo of this beauty. Glad it's ok
Nice image. I tell my wife that's a good reason not to wash the windows.
