OP, Go to Apps in Settings click the arrow next to Installed Apps, and list them here. Without knowing what's there, we can't help you.

As far as uninstalling Norton or Mcafee you need to use a... Mcafee software removal tool...
To get rid of the hidden files they leave behind..
This is a special separate software found by a simple search..
Try..

It seems that the antivirus software is as bad as the virus.

Part of me wants to say, "If you want to remove useless programs from your new PC, start with Windows." But I won't. You purchased a Dell, and didn't say you wanted to use Linux, so by inference, Windows is what you want. I have a Windows 11 Pro PC and actually find Edge to be a pretty good browser!

Edge is in no way related to the late, unlamented Internet Exploder... er, Explorer. At their core, virtually all web browsers use one of three "rendering engines,"

• WebKit, developed by Apple from a Linux source and used in the Safari browser and all iOS devices
• Gecko, developed by Mozilla, and used in Firefox and Thunderbird
• Blink, developed by Google, and used in Chrome and its derivatives. Google started with WebKit but built Blink off of it.
• Trident, developed by Microsoft and used in IE. It is now defunct. Edge uses the Blink engine, which puts it on par with Chrome.

All of these browsers are "invasive" in that they track your activity and generate targeted ads based on your browsing history. On a new computer I always download and install the free (and private) Brave Browser and make it the default.

There is a utility called "Tron" that I use. Depending on your unit, start it and set it before bed.
"On my "lite" installs it take almost an hour; with my relatives' POS it took several.
RTFM, and be careful.

This is interesting. In late 2021 I purchased a new Dell laptop and like yours Mcafee was installed. Like you I did not want Mcafee to be my antivirus/trojan/malware go to so I didn't activate it. However, I was able to uninstall it without any difficulty although I did use a non-operating system uninstall program instead of the Windows version. Makes me wonder if Dell changed something to keep people from uninstalling Mcafee.

I uninstalled McAfee from my new Dell without any problem, but I kept getting pop-ups to download it anew from Dell, and that went on for weeks...

Do I uninstall Microsoft edge and replace with firefox?

What you may think is useless today may be needed tomorrow. While I was a firefox fan I have moved to Chrome. I have also found that having more than one browser available can be needed. Some homespun web pages seem to violate certain rules and a different browser is needed.

I also just brought a new computer and uninstalled nothing although I do despise IE. The space you may think you are saving is trivial. I don't know if they have made uninstall any better, but it used to leave stuff around after it was done.

This is time to learn your task manager to at least see what is running after you boot the system. Some apps like to leave a piece running to make invocation faster. If it's an app you use daily, just fine. If not they nibble at system resources like memory. Stuff like this comes to haunt you when you try to run something like LR's new Denoise and runs very slowly or craps out.

"Best" is relative. I just don't like the clutter of things I will never use.

The worst I ever found was Java. Seems that the installation also added an Ap to let it use my computer to send updates and loads to other computers. Caught it in task manager using almost 50% of CPU resources. Turns out this is more common than you’d think. A nightmare to uninstall, kept reinstalling until I changed the names of the executables so it couldn’t find them and removed it from the registry. I still get reminders to update Java - not gonna happen, and if an Ap needs the Java runtime environment, I don’t need it. Beware.

I use a program called Revo Uninstaller on my computers. It seems to do a good job removing the layers of installed garbage.
