Do you have any recovery software to try and see if it actually recorded anything?

I think that hope is dashed by what the OP says about finding no gap in the file numbering ... IOW no files are missing from the sequence :-(

It makes no difference if the card is formatted in the camera or the computer. The camera will write the files on the card all by it's lonesome. Even a card straight off the shelf is already formatted and the camera reads the card and writes to it automatically. What is strange is why the camera didn't come up with a no card error, and you didn't gimp any of the photos you took.

That's the case with my camera.

The moment I detect a problem with a memory card, I instantly remove it and replace it with another. I would never start of photo session with an unreliable card. So, I test every card before I start taking any photos.

Thank you everyone. I usually do format in the camera. I sure won't try formatting in my computer again!

Although they always tell you to format a new card in the camera, I can use the same card in different cameras. Each camera makes a new folder for itself. The next time I buy a card, I'm going to use it without formatting and see what happens.

I have always formatted SD card in my cameras. Doing it on a computer will have a different file structure vs camera file structure.

I have seen advice to first format a problem card in your computer and then format it in the camera. No idea why that would be a good idea.

The cards are already to go on a Windows system. I just use them.
Formatting a new card on a computer is redundant.
My camera adds what it wants to a blank card, without formatting it.

But, formatting makes people feel good.
And it's a CYA recommendation by the manufacturer since they have no idea of the card status.
Some cameras may require it though. It depends on how the camera manufacturer set their system up.

If the pictures from the day before are important, you might try some recovery processes/software.

Only format memory cards in the camera in which they will be used. NEVER in a computer!

Sounds like "enable shutter with no card" is active. I turned that puppy OFF.
Possibly the card just didn't get seated correctly.

So many comments on my post. Different opinions. I do not have enable shutter without card enabled.
I should have reviewed my photos during the shooting..that was my mistake.
There were no missing numbers.
I will order a new card. I formatted the card in the camera yesterday.
