Isn't this plane the old "Comet" which was long ago withdrawn from service. (Too many crashes and problems)

No the Comet was by De Haviland, This was by Vickers and a feature was it was quite to travel in due to rear mounted engines.

Comet problems were caused by not understanding metal fatigue in Aluminium, the result was Boeing used the discovery to corner the market with the 707. Mark 4 Comets proved very reliable and flew millions of kilometres without incident (some bird strikes in Africa excepted).

No the VC10 was a Vickers aircraft and was quite good to fly in. Fairly quite due to rear engines. BOAC used them on the LHW to Johannesburg route in the sixty's
