Great photo. Is the double cog track in the center used for traction assist ?? I have never seen that before.

The West Coast of TaSmania. It runs from Strahan to Queenstown. I might post some shots of the railway from years ago if anyone is interested.

This allows the trains to operate on steep grades above 10%, which is the maximum for friction-based rail.

The Pikes Peak Cog Railway here in the US is recognized as the world's highest cog railroad. It begun service in 1891. The Pikes peek railroad has a incline between 12% to 25%

An excellent shot. What is that 3rd "rail" between the tracks, and why does only one set of rails have it?

30 years ago I drove from Hobart to Cradle Mountain, so I likely went through Queenstown. I doubt it has changed a lot since then. I fondly remember Padymelons coming to the lodge door.

I saw the "Three Sisters" at Echo Point in the Blue Mountains. Didn't see them from the train.

was all the same trip for me...and parts run together after many many (many) years. I was standing between cars, and remember looking down from the train into a deep ravine and saw the largest brown snake I had ever seen before (or since) sunning itself on a rock. I have often wondered what type it was.

Was my 2017 trip to Australia, but my photos of the 2 places were a week apart.
