Steven Frederic Seagal (/sɪˈɡɑːl/; born April 10, 1952) is an American and naturalized Russian actor, screenwriter, and martial artist. A 7th-dan black belt in aikido, he began his adult life as a martial arts instructor in Japan[2] and eventually ended up running his father-in-law's dojo.[3] He later moved to Los Angeles where he had the same profession. In 1988, Seagal made his acting debut in Above the Law. By 1991, he had starred in four films.

Re his bio: several years ago (1999)I took a San Diego harbor cruise. The guide took us past Coronodo island at which time he mentioned that the Navy Seal school was located there, among numerous other “well off” residents. He also said that Steven Seagal was a former Navy Seal. If true, the above bio did not mention that. Any truth to this?

In 1999 l took a San Diego harbor cruise. As we approached Coronado Island he mentioned it was home to the Navy Seal school and that Steven Seagal was a former Seal. Since that was not mentioned in the bio above was it simply omitted or was it not true?

Coronado Island is a great place. It has one of the best beaches in the country. It also had a very upscale community. Multi-million dollar houses. You may remember a couple of news stories from there. One, where a young boy died in the care of his nanny and then when the nanny was found hanging, naked, from the second floor. In 2012, there was a murder-suicide involving four people including a Navy pilot.

We spent a little time on the beach. It's probably the only beach in the country where you'll see groups of Navy Seals running past in groups the most advanced helicopters flying along the beach line on the way back to base. At the far end of the beach is a four to five star hotel of architectural note.

Not true. He never served in the military. That is mentioned in his bio. The confusion probably arose from the roles he played in his movies!
