Canon G7X III, just bought one for a trip to Italy in July. After much discussion on UHH, research on the internet, and vist to Best Buy to check out the cameras, decided on the G7X III. The feel in my hands and on my face were the deciding factors. The front grip just feels right, and much better thaan the rest. Bought it at B&H at a discounted price, and am loving it. Picture quality, sharpness and color are great!

I am in Italy at the moment. This is my seventh or eighth trip here. Previous trips I have brought everything from a shirt pocket compact, point and shoot, Sony A6000 and A7R iii. This trip I just brought my iPhone Pro 12. I couldn’t be happier. Every shot is well exposed even under the harsh contrast conditions you get in the narrow Italian streets and the wide angle lens is capable of capturing the tallest bell towers and Duoma facades. If I need more control I use the Halide app and save raw files.
PS. Don’t come to Italy in July. The weather and the crowds will be brutal. It is beautiful right now even though it seems like every kid in Italy is on their school trip.

My G7x recently died, it didn't survive the fall onto concrete.
I loved that camera, and have not yet replaced it. Any of the Series are excellent.
The G 7x III and G5x (II?) both have a 24-100 equiv. f/1.8-2.8 lens which is nice
The 5 Adds a pop up evf
The Canon site lists all of them as Back Ordered right now

A TG-6 would have survived the fall!

Those pushng the Sony RX100 series conveniently fail to mention they are about double the price of most of the other cameras discussed here.

Yes, NO-one has mentioned anything about price - except you - but the request was for the "best" .....

One of my friends is thinking about getting a compact camera to take with him when he goes mountain biking. He wants the photos to have quality worthy of being used in a magazine. He shoots photos for magazines occasionally, both with his phone and with a Canon Rebel digital camera, but he doesn't want to take a DSLR with him on his rides. Can anyone recommend a high-quality, compact camera with good image quality and good autofocus performance for him to use?

The Sony RX 100 VII combined with either the top of the line Apple or Samsung S22 or S23 Ultra is all that you need. I love the view finder. There will be plenty of times when you will not be able to see the camera screen because it is too light. Do you really want to shoot in the blind?

Similar to what Happen to my SX50 Bridge, Lens Motor Died, had to Replace it with a Lumix Bridge Camera 2 Weeks ago, it's somewhat better than the SX50.

I, also, have an SX50. Which model Lumix did you get? I'd consider it if my SX50 goes.

I bought a Lumix DC-FZ80 package from Walmart.com

It was the Lowest Bidder than Amazon's DC-FZ80 Package under $500.00.

It came with a Case W/Shoulder Strap, a Flash/Digital Slave Light Flash, with Bracket, A Video Flash, also with A Bracket, a 12 Inch Tripod that Bends, a Kit Cleaning Kit, but No 55mm Filter.

The Lumix itself has 18-2000 Zoom Lens, No Fold Out Back Screen like my Pocket Lumix & Swivel (NOW Not Operating SX50), 18 Megapixels (2 Short Megapixels than my Pocket DC-ZS70, which that Camera has 20 Megapixels).

It also has one Feature... that's a Double Exposure Mode.

I haven't Took it out & gave it its Run Yet, still Practicing on Camera & Knowing it's Features

My SX50 Died on Me 2 Weeks ago when I was Putting the Charged up Battery in & I forgot to Zip up the Case & it Fell out of the Case on the Floor & the Focusing was Out of Whack & when I Zoomed, it Shut Down, I guess the Gears Jammed up!

After given advice on UHH on how to Repair my SX50, I decided to buy the Lumix Bridge Camera, DC-FZ80 & got a Package like I did in November 2021, Buying the Pocket DC-ZS70, to Replace my Stolen Canon Powershot SX150, which got Stolen a Week Before, I got a Package Deal from Amazon, Ran me Over $300 Bills, but that Came with a Case, 16 Megapixel Card, a Card Reader & an envelope to Download Photo Creative Books.

& what's Irony... I Bought a Replacement Canon Powershot 150 from eBay for under $50.00 just before I Placed my Wal-Mart Order the Day After Easter & I use it for Backup for my Pocket Lumix DC-ZS70 & it was Delivered in 3 Days, the DC-FZ80 Package was Delivered in 2 Days.

You mention your Lumix SX50 which fell and was damaged. Are you meaning a Lumix ZS50 like mine? The SX50 is a canon. If you had the ZS50 and replaced with a ZS70 can you comment on the comparison as I'd be interested.

The Sony RX100 vii is better then the little Canons. Much better focusing in low light.

I have a tape measure handy. The rear display of my G9XII is 3.25x2.25 inches, that's a pretty large view finder. This model doesn't have a movable screen, so yes, there are times I might be shooting 'blind', maybe holding the camera down at my knee instead of laying on the ground myself. But, this 21st century modern technology, I can take as many digital versions as needed to get a great one. I just check my 3.25x2.25in screen and decide if I need to try again.

When you think about hiking 803 miles, with everything you need strapped to your back or in your pockets, how important would a view finder held to your eye really be?

Did you do the other 303 miles?

The DC-FZ80 certainly does have an evf.

Little Canons? Canon (and Panasonic) make many portables and it depends on your requirement. Better low light performance requires a bigger sensor which kills zoom range.

I know it's a trite saying but "You get what you pay for." Yes, the price of the RX100 vii is high (buy used or get the vi model) - but it is better then the Canons premium P&S cameras, particularly in low light. Focusing makes all the difference.
