At least it is something actually useable for more than 1 thing as the Leica M11 Monocrom at $9,200.
The lens replaces the 70-200 f2.8, and the 300mm f2.8 for $8,900.
It is slightly heavier than the 300mm alone and almost 2 lbs lighter than the Nikon 120-300mm f2.8 and far sharper than the Nikon lens.
According to reviews and Canon it is sharper than the 300mm prime which itself has no peer better.
Additionally Canon says the 1.4X and 2X teleconverters can be used with NO loss of IQ and reviews seem to bear this out.
So far lighter and sharper than the competition, nearly as light as a single prime and not much larger.
Smaller than the 600mm f4 and with a 2x converter about 2,000 cheaper with one stop loss in light and as good or better IQ and a range of 200-600mm for far more versatility in the wilds than the 600mm prime.
If I had a need for this I would buy one immediately (Yep, have the cash on hand) for the capabilities.
So all things considered it is a bargain.

Was it a GT? I always thought that the Probe GT was a very attractive car. Red with no spoiler.

Well you could buy a m.zuiko (Olympus) 40-150mm f2.8 (80- 300mm FF equiv) for $1300. This lens is compatible with a 1.4x teleconverter. You can also buy a m.zuiko 300mm f 4 lens for $3000. Of course you would need an Olympus (OM system) body. You could buy all of this for lens than the lens you describe.

I have a nice 80-200mm f/2.8 with a 1.4x teleconverter; total cost $400. I also have a 100-300mm for ~$250. Both would get some great shots of little Ava playing soccer! And you could still drive to the game...

I'm sure that old lens has served well in its day.
AFspeed, accuracy, IS which the 80-200 doesn't have, range and IQ are far inferior to this new lens.

AF speed is adequate, IS is in the camera body, IQ is quite nice AND the price is right! I also had a new 70-200mm f/2.8 that wasn't all that much better; sold it.

Adequate for slowski things.
This is a lens pros will depend upon for olympic level action and adequate gets you no shots compared to the competition.
I find my FD lenses adequate in their range of capability but I do not try deluding myself that they are as good as an EF/RF L series lens.

I understand the GAS but if someone has gas why doesn't he just buy it. Why make a post asking other UHH members. How can others feel how bad the GAS hits you?

We can show you our empathy for your GAS. Yes it can be severe but managed with great care and concern by friend and fellow hoggers.
