Any suggestions for replacement software?

There are applications that will do much of what the current Adobe Suite does. They won't do all of it, and they won't do all of it the same ways. Some apps will do some different things, while others do the same things differently.

If you're not a working pro or and advanced and prolific enthusiast, maybe something else is good enough for your needs.

You don't say what computer OS you use. While most of the better imaging software runs on MacOS and Windows, there are some that are Mac-only or Windows-only.

If you are a Mac user, ESPECIALLY an M1 or M2 series Mac user, I recommend this trio:

> Apple Photos for cataloging and moving your images. It's free with every Mac, and is sort of a "substitute for Lightroom Classic" without the advanced features.

> Google 'darktable' as an open source replacement for Lightroom 6. It has many of the same features and runs on "everything," including Windows, Mac, and Linux. Downside: lousy documentation and geeky support community aren't for everyone.

> Gentlemen Coders' Raw Power. Raw Power is the advanced raw file conversion software — a "substitute for ACR" — that used to be inside Apple Aperture, which for years, was the Mac alternative to Adobe Lightroom 6 and earlier. Raw Power can be a plug-in for Photos, or work as a stand-alone. $40 or so…

> Serif Affinity Photo is a very powerful bitmap editor that can be considered a "substitute for Photoshop." It, too, can be used as a plug-in for Photos, or as a stand-alone. $70 or so… https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/full-feature-list/

If you are a Windows user, I'd look at Serif Affinity Photo as a bitmap editor. See link above. Google 'darktable' as an open source replacement for Lightroom. It has many of the same features and runs on "everything," including Windows, Mac, and Linux. Downside: lousy documentation and geeky community aren't for everyone.

Adobe Photoshop Elements is worth a comparison with Affinity Photo — on both platforms. It's not a subscription, and costs under $100.

No need for industrial strength. I'm an avid amateur and probably edit an average of 10 files per week.

The only issue with the amount of editing you do is the price. Renting at $120/year might seem cheap but not if you don't edit every day, or for a living. If PS stopped working, then you need to fix whatever is wrong. It's not a reason to stop using software that used to work, and still works for millions.

As far as the knuckle draggers thinking PS is the best, it isn't. I switched from PS to Affinity Photo several years ago after over 20 years of using PS. Affinity does some things better than PS, and vice-versa. Affinity is just an editor though, no photo file management. I use ACDSee for photo file management, I'm pretty sure it's the best, and I've been using it since probably 1995 or so.

If you have no issue renting software, then I'd stick with PS if it were me. If you switch to say Affinity, you will need a good photo manager like ACDSee. Affinity is possibly a bit difficult to use after learning PS, but much of it is exactly the same, just different enough to give you a headache, particularly if you already internalized PS. I think the latest release is a tad quirky as well.

As far as chatting and told you are being charged... I doubt it. I've been scammed when looking for help on other software, specifically my wife's digital watch. A pop-up came up asking if I wanted to chat for some help. Turned out it was 100% scam and they tried to sell me some stupid crap. I recommend NEVER going to chat when a pop-up occurs w/o you even asking. If you do, make sure you don't give them any access to your PC. My scam chat asked to allow access to my PC so they could see what the problem was. Pretty stupid since my PC had nothing to do with my wife's watch. I reported the incident to a government site for reporting this type of stuff, but I figure they, besides being incompetent, get a million reports a day, and ignore all million of them

Anyhow, try to contact Adobe again, it seems others have had lots of success with their support.

what is the phone number?

Then do it!!

Since it works well for millions, it might be your computer or you.

If not, the Lightroom Classic forum is here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic/ct-p/ct-lightroom-classic?page=1&sort=latest_replies&lang=all&tabid=all

Adobe tech support is here: https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen

There is also a phone number for tech support.

The OP appears to have been scammed by someone who made him believe Adobe wanted to charge him for support, and that seems to be part of why he wants to dump them. So he may want to stay with them if he is able to get the real Adobe support to fix his problem.

I ditched Adobe years ago after the company lied to people purchasing their software and Adobe had "promised" not to go to subscription based software. DXO does everything that I need to do..

If you are subscribing to Adobe Photography Bundle, support is free! Are you sure you were on Adobe's site?

Can this be translated into 21st Century American English? I had to put up with way too much overly-embellished prose in college. My whole brain rebels against it.

The OP gave his reasons, and that wasn't one of them.
