I want to produce a wedding album that I can print and also post on Smug Mug. Anyone know of an app that is both intuitive and offers design flexibility?

You may find some help in the UHH wedding section.

Last year I made a wedding album. I looked at about 10 different sites. I was going to use Blurb, but then selected MixBook because the software was very feature rich and easy to use. The album came out just beautiful.
https://www.midwestphotographic.com/catalog_2.htmlCheck out this link. This company offers a complete photo printing and bookbinding service- weddg albums are their specialty.
They will inform you as to how to send them files etc. and create designs. Posting imag on social media and various cloud services, and other platforms is a separate issue. Contact those services online for terms, subscriptions, and posting specifications.

I would also suggest looking into WHCC, they just introduced some new wedding album covers. I use Album Epoca in Italy They offer design, print and bind services and are fantastic. They are truly top of the line stuff and expensive but superb quality that will knock Mixbook and Blurb right out of the water. It all comes down to what you want to pay and how high a quality you want.

If you’re interested, send me a private email with your email address and I’ll send you a link to the wedding album I did. It’s available on the MixBook website.
