This is Fort Hancock again. At first I did not like the photo; but I started to add some contrast and texture and it started to stand out a bit. I cropped it so that there is an equal amount of space on either side and so that the buildings are cut off on the side. I tried removing them; but then you have blank white sky all the way to the street level, and that does not work. By cutting them off intentionally, I'm hoping that the viewer will perceive them as being less important and concentrating on the façade of the theater in is somewhat dilapidated form.

Erich, the cropping certainly worked, as I hardly thought about the side buildings. It really brings the main subject forward. I really dislike those light grey skies, but that's the rule of the day most of the time. It does lend itself to a nice B&W.

I have to say that the white sky worked to my advantage here. There were a lot of bothersome limbs from trees near the building that were just in the way. By having a lot of white that was all the same tone, I could clone out the offending tree limbs and not have splotches from different tones that you can often get in the sky. They are boring; but I like the features of the building so I also did not want a dramatic sky competing for the viewer's attention. Since it is all uniform white, you don't notice it as much.

Thank you. It seems such a simple photograph; but there is something that I really like about it. Probably it has to do with the fact that we can wonder who came here in the past and what movies did they see? We can see that it is run down and not being used anymore; but I must have been a different type of building in its heyday. Thanks for the input.

Lovely photo. I can visualize the folks coming out each of the side doors with a line of folks waiting in line through the center double doors.

Man, I miss those days!

ebrunner, thanks for the memories!
