This is an odd situation. Someone on the uke forum posted about beautiful, inexpensive ukuleles being made in the Philippines. They make them from a solid block of mahogany, rather than using thin wood and bending the sides. A beautiful travel uke (smallish) costs P2,200, which is $36. Shipping is the killer, though: $90 to the US. I would be paying $126 for a $36 uke. If they had a US dealer, they could send hundreds of them over at once.

If you really want it price doesn't matter!!
And if they imported them in bulk they would probably cost $126 or more.

Er... yes, it does. I thought I could fly there (in a plane), but then I saw the cost.

Start the company Jerry. Become the uke importer. Spread the unusual Jerry. Be the uke master.

Jerry, at the current exchange rate, PHP2,200 is USD39.75. Shipping always is the problem. And maybe customs? Of course, with your resources, none of that would be a consideration. Get your advertising agency started on it right away, before somebody else beats you to it! Just think - solid mahogany; pure rich sound, unequalled by the glued together veneer models. You can fabricate the custom cases! And I'm sure some of the ladies in your group would jump at the chance to be models for your promotions!

Now what's this about the ladies in my group jumping?

That's right, you live in the Philippines. These are from Cebu. I have three people who want one. When I get two more, I'll place an order. We like to support independent builders.

Another shipping shocker. I want to buy some vinyl - $13. Shipping would be $15. That's if the vinyl is folded ("It will have creases.") From past experience, I know that creases are here to stay. For two dollars more, they'd roll it. For a lower price per yard and free shipping, I found what I want on Amazon.

It looks like I'll be ordering five ukuleles. That brings the cost per unit way down.

Actually, four other people want them, too.

EDITED: I wanted to order some vinyl. It cost $13/yard, with a shipping cost of $15/yard. Then I found what I wanted on Amazon for $12/yard, delivered.
