Not interested in FLASHBANG OH HOW COOL BOY I'M GOING THERE SINCE ALL THE OTHER COOL PEOPLE ARE ALREADY THERE AND I JUST DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE BACK HERE WITH ALL THE WANNABES!
Did I get carried away??

I took full advantage of the mirrorless hop and bought a D850 and invested in glass. I'm 67 and unless there is events I'm not counting on, I know no one does, they all should last longer than me. I'm kinda glad mirrorless has become the thing.

I have a Nikon D750 that I like using. I doubt i`ll ever go mirrorless. It`s a hobby and for me I can`t justify shelling out money to get on the band wagon. How are you carrying your camera? I have arthritis too in my hands and the end of a long day they can hurt.
I recently bought a camera harness from desired leather. Made a world of difference. It took the weight off my neck from the camera strap. https://desiredleather.com/shop/mono-camera-harness/
It hangs down and I don`t have to really carry it, I pull it up when I shoot with it.
Good luck with whatever you shoot with and have fun

Welcome to the world of electronics, what's new technology today is old technology tomorrow. I own DSLR's and mirrorless cameras, one thing will never change, the final photograph, Dslr cameras still make great looking photos!

Hi, Everyone! I hope I’m posting in the correct area. Last year, I bought the intro Nikon Z50. Basically to replace my Nikon D7200. As I get older, the weight of the camera inflames the arthritis in my hands at times. It seems that Mirrorless is the way of the future, but I’m having a hard time getting used to the Z50. It’s lightweight and easy to understand and operate, but I miss using my D7200, which I still have by the way. I was considering selling it to KEH. Do you guys feel like the DSLR is soon to be a camera of the past? I actually bought the adaptor and use most of my F mount lenses. Just wondering how many of you are using a Nikon Z camera and your thoughts about them. Thanks!

While many rant about the superiority of their mirrorless cameras, your DSLR camera certainly is not dead. While mirrorless cameras may have some “marginal” improvements, they really do not do any better than DSLRs in any aspects that really matter. Your D7200 battery will outperform mirrorless batteries. Some mirrorless cameras are non-responsive. When the camera goes to sleep, some are slow to come back to life. I don’t find that to be an issue with my DSLRs. Your lenses will render images just as well, absent excessive pixel peeping. Mirrorless has become the new standard only because the manufacturers have seemingly stopped making DSLRs. While I have both types of cameras, I know that mirrorless cameras are not really any better than a DSLR if you know what you are doing with your camera. The DSLR can certainly hold its own.

The DSLR cameras may be aging a bit, but they are far from dead! The mirrorless upstarts are a lot like teenagers! Their owners think they are the end-all, be-all, and that they are not! Mirrorless cameras are good, but they still have their problems, too!

I shot all afternoon today with my DSLRs, and there was not one moment that I wished I had one of my mirrorless cameras with me. There were no scenes I shot that a mirrorless camer could have done better. Perhaps some photographer could have done better, but a mirrorless camera could not have done better! Don’t believe all the tripe that some folks utter!

Mirrorless cameras are no different than advamces in all tech products. Virtually everything you said as a detriment to mirrorless is patently false. I love my DSLRs and I love my mirrorless. It’s a simple as that.

Hopefully (someday) Nikon will have enough sense to offer a mirrorless with an F mount

Why would they ever do that? It is not just about the mount, To get F mount lenses to work properly they would essentially have to build in the same spacing as an FTZ adapter. They would end up with bigger bulkier mirrorless cameras to use with older design bigger and bulkier F mount lenses. It would make no sense to do that. And since DSLRs are being discontinued, in the not too distant future F mount lenses will only be available in the used market. It is much easier and cost effective to just use the FTZ II adapter on a Z mount body.

It’s kind of telling that you say “ While mirrorless cameras may have some ‘marginal’ improvements, they really do not do any better than DSLRs in any aspects that really matter” and then your first example is the battery. Maybe those improvements don’t matter to you, but eye focus, fast frame rates, IBIS, the ability to see exposure and focus peaking are more than marginal improvements to many of us.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. We all learned years ago that digital photography is just a phase we are going through. Sure, a few people threw out their developing tanks, got rid of all the smelly chemicals etc. Digital may have brought some marginal improvements, but most realize that giving up film was a mistake. Just wait for the introduction of the new and improved Kodachrome and dumpsters around the world will be overflowing with digital cameras, with or without mirrors.

By the way, IBIS is BS. A good shot of scotch will steady your hands. A few more shots and you won't care! Long live Kodak.

Maybe just a bit. Regardless of the impressive size of someone's expensive camera collection, it's just not COOL to use a DSLR at concerts, speeches, etc. unless the ambient sound is loud enough to mask the camera. There are times and places where photographers WANNABE silent.

Hello
I may get some heat for this but I will still give my two cents. While technology has advanced and there are all positive and negative, we all have to decide what works best for us. So we can choose DSLR or mirrorless but that's
each person's choice as to what they feel works better for that person. So enjoy whichever direction you choose and it's your call to make so be happy. You can always rent or test and let that decide your choice.

I also have a mint D7200 I've used and it still puts out great raw files for post. Like you, my hands are beginning to introduce arthritic conditions and I'm seriously considering selling it to help fund a Z50 or even a Z5. After renting a Z5 and giving it a shot (no pun intended), the 7200 compares to it like a brick. Image wise, of course the Z5 has the edge, but, believe it or not, I don't really see a "wow" factor. The D7200 is a very capable piece of gear.

Lots of people have lots of DSLR's so they are not really 'Going Away'. That said, most major companies will not ne making new ones, although Pentax says they will and just released a Monochrome DSLR.
I think the more important question, is to figure out why "You are having a hard time getting used to the Z50".
Because if you can solve that, your problem goes away.
You do not mention why you are having difficulty, but if you choose to say what the issue is, perhaps a Z camera user might be able to help.
Good Luck
