If your computer is upgradable you should do it.

[quote=jerryc41]I have no reason to upgrade, so I'm waiting until I have no choice.

Me too!

I still have XP on one of my other old computers. There is one essential program I use which requires XP. I use it about once a month.

My solution is to have both worlds of Apple OS and MS Windows Windows OS. What I hated a lot about Windows never ready for prime time operating system are the constant updates when shutting down, but having the need for my work software that only works in Windows my solution is switching to an Apple computer which offers free OS upgrades that look and feel like the old OS your upgrading with hardware upgrades, plus Apple controls both the computer hardware and software in its computer. I use a program called Parallels that creates a virtual desktop so I can run both operating systems and use whatever OS and software to get things done. Now with Apple's new M2 CPU chips which are faster than Intel chips, you have a lot more powerful computer that is also faster in getting things done.

I bought a late 2012 imac from bestbuy and never went back to windows again. 2 months ago I went back to bestbuy, and a apple representative was there. He offered a brand new, but open box, basic imac for $1,100, and signing to a bestbuy card for another $100 off. so I didn't wait I bought it for $1,000 and also I bought the epson et2850 printer that was on sale for $199. I like both machines, but I had to buy a multiport device from amazon as the basic imac has only 2 ports.

I upgraded and had zero issues

Win 11 on my laptop. It took a little bit getting used to some minor changes from win 10.
My only real gripe was that the task bar was locked at the bottom of the screen. I found a fix online that changes the task bar to a win 10 task bar so I can now move it to the top of the screen. No problems with existing programs.

Ditto....Windows 11 just "feels" a little annoyingly different....but no problem with photo editing software.

And again, what has an Apple platform have to Dow with the OP’s question about win 10 vs Win 11?

The only problems I had with Win 11 was that my very old Printer, Brother Control center 3, and Word 2007 did not work well and I had to replace these. No probs with editing programs.

Although some people love to hate Windows, personally I actually like Win11. I have been using both Light room Classic and Photoshop with Win11 and have not experienced any issues with those programs or with the OS for that matter.

I upgraded to 11 and it didn't cause any problems with Lightroom/Photoshop. It does have a few changes from 10 which irritate me a lot. I don't know why they can't leave things alone if they are working well. You shouldn't have any problems generally though.

I purchased a new computer nearly 1 year ago and it came with Windows 11. I was very happy from the get go. The screen presentation was like the Windows 7 screen presentation (my old computer). It is fast and my computer is a speed demon. I'm pretty happy with it. The updates are pretty frequent, but so far they haven't been a problem.

I use PhotoShop Elements and it works perfectly. I have the last Lightroom stand alone software, which I was worried about, but it works just fine. The hard part with LR was reloading all the presets I use. Took some time, but the process was faster than the old. I'm happy.

I recently had a failed Windows 11 update. After the update crashed, I could start the computer but had very little functionality. I was able to copy and paste my images to a portable hard drive. Lightroom still worked and I could still upload and process images. A couple days later the computer wouldn't boot. I had to take it to Best Buy and they reinstalled Windows 11.

The things I hate about new Apple computers are the lack of parts and few to no upgrades on memory as everything is now soldered on the motherboard. Like you, I have found it necessary to add a unit for more ports to get things done.

I am waiting till Fall either to get an iMac Mini or iMac 24 all-in-one with M3 processors should last me for a few years and be dam fast.

Ms Windows' OS constant Updates are a great reason to go to Apple computers

The computer I use is a significantly "souped up" 2013 Dell which is not compatible with Windows 11. My wife's Dell is compatible, but is overall less capable. We updated hers, and I'm keeping mine as-is at least until Windows 10 support ends in 2025 or so. So far they are both running just fine. We did have to install a Dell update on hers to correct a wifi reliability problem, but that all happened automatically with minimal intervention from us.

We did delay the change for a couple of months to reduce the risk of problems in the initial release, but everything has gone really smoothly and without major problem. I do not find any problems moving back and forth between the two machines. The "big" maintenance updates do seem to take a while to do, but there is no problem doing them at your choice of time as long as you don't try to wait too long.

I have no reason to suggest that you not do it.

What is the need for Apple owners to constantly evangelize Apple in threads that are specifically about Windows versions?

And, since you mentioned it, you should Wiki the number of Apple OS revs vs Windows OS revs - you may be surprised at the similarity. The “constant updates” are typically not OS upgrades, but an updates to virus/malware detection and security upgrades. They happen in the background and have little if any effect on day-to-day operation.

Seriously... I manage literally *hundreds* of mission-critical computers.

They work 24/7 and I care that all security patches are regularly installed in a centraliced manner.

But, upgrading an OS (weather it is Windows or Linux) means a) work (money), b) time (more money) and c) risk (much more money)... without any benefit whatsoever.

If I ever find anybody just trying to do that, I swear I'll cut his/hers fingers off and have them for dinner.

Do not - I repeat - DO NOT make major changes in your computer if there is no obvious benefit.

Besides a) Windows 10 is fully supported (all security and performance patches are deployed regularly) and b) there is no Windows 11... It is just a rebadged Windows 10 / 2203 with added incompatibilites to force non tech savvy people to buy new unnecessary hardware.
