Looking at your work, I see you have used Proshow in its most basic or simplest form, just simple dissolves. It is a fantastic programme and capable of so much more than that with moving the images etc. during the slide show, rather than simple static images dissolving. Sort of like owning a Porsche 911, and this is just starting it up and shifting into first gear and moving forward a few feet in your drive way, compared to what it is capable of.

I've had the Gold first then upgraded to the Producer and used it for many, many years. It is capable of creating amazing slide shows with all sorts of X and Y moving and spinning and overlapping motions, to really put your slide show way out in front of simple dissolves. However, that does require a lot of time and effort in creating such shows.

It was very sad to see it end, I must say. I've not found anything as good to replace it, up to now, that was as easy to use. Good luck with your dilemma, I hope you get it to work. I keep it on my older computer and leave it that way, to do anything I want on the old system.

Hi,
Here is a ProShow Producer show I did 6 years ago. I did use transitions, when I presented this at libraries and camera clubs, most said they felt the transitions were distracting from the images.

Thanks for sharing, Roni. Nice images, and as far as the transitions go, everyone has their own preference. Because it takes me so long to make a show, I try to keep it simple. I'm not very creative, and so I use basic transitions, and keep my shows at about 5 minutes or so, in duration.

I've never used Producer because Proshow Gold, seemed to be good for what I was doing.

Thanks again,

Mihael

In the early years of me using Proshow Producer, I did use the different transitions. The feedback that I got was that it was too distracting from the images. I have done these kinds of shows for many different camera clubs. I want people who view these to focus on the images, not on the transitions. It was a choice I made to keep it simple.

Ohhh, I was not talking about the cheap beginner looking transitions that so many people seem to gravitate to, when they have a new slide show software package to use. There are hundreds of transitions, of which most are too amateurish to ever bother with. Those type would of course be obnoxious to most good photographers. I am talking about adding some interest to static images simply dissolving, because that too gets old rather quickly, to many viewers.

I am suggesting using a very slow partial zoom in and/or slow movement to one side or another etc., or a slow pan across an image. When appropriate, a slight rotation of a few degrees, as the viewer watches the image. Professional and tasteful transition and movement use, as the slide show progresses. These are the types of things I meant, not spinning in or blocks changing images, or photo explosions etc. like someone who had no clue, would do.

You have some great images there, what a lovely selection. If you altered that somewhat, keep many of the motion across the screen or slow zooms in place but possible cut out the page curls and slide across transitions etc. then you may find people would not feel so concerned about the transitions. You could still use many of the image motions you had there but use simple dissolves or quick cuts in the editing, which keeps it a punchy show without suffering from transition distraction for the viewer. I think you did a very nice job and nice music choice.

Thanks for the kind words. I have done many, many slide shows. I like the ones I am currently doing best. It shows off my images without making the slide shows to long.

I was using Proshow Producer for many years. I was very disappointed when it closed down. I have so many slide shows on the site. I am now using Photopia. I have made several slide shows with music.

I am presenting this one to a local camera club.

When it was Photodex, you made the purchase and owned it forever. When they closed down, they sold out to a company that were going to continue the same sort of thing, though they wanted to go the Adobe route and hold us to a monthly ransom. That new company was called Photopia, basically the old Photodex company but now on a never gonna let you (customer) own it basis, you have to rent it forever type of platform. I'm sure they felt they could pull in more money if they just did a monthly rental.

I would never rent or be held to ransom, from any of these companies. However, if I was someone who did not mind renting forever, then I would choose Photoshop over Photopia, any day. So much more to Photoshop than Photopia. I'm surprised it still manages to carry on.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Do you mean that I would have to make a show, save it, and then publish it?

I made a sample show, as I mentioned, and saved it to a USB drive. It worked only on the computer that I used to make the show. When I put the USB, into my other computer, the show opened, but there were no photos.

Thanks again, for your suggestion.

Michael

Yes that is exactly what you need to do. Otherwise Proshow is unable to find the photos on your new computer. Proshow needs to make a complete file so you can run it on other computers. A simple save results is not the answer as Proshow will try to locate your photos on the original computer which don't exist on your new computer.
Good luck!
