I've been 100% MFT since 2008 - always Panasonic. I've grown with the Panasonic development, and left your antiquated cameras behind., Nothing wrong with them, depends on your needs. With dual OIS and IBS you could do all you need to do and still use MFT. However, for what you seem to need, leave the Brownie Box at home. If you stay mirrorless, like the rest of are doing, buy an extra battery!! and don't waste your cash on a Nikon.

I have the EM 1 Mark II and the EM 1 Mark III and shoot wildlife with the P/L 100-400 and the Oly 300mm f/4 and I am very happy the results and battery life with Oly batteries is into the hundreds of shoots. You can look at results here, www.facebook.com/RayReederPhotography

First, your issues are with your lens for low light and night shooting. I’ve been shooting Olympus since 2016. First the m5 II, then the M5-III and now also the M1- III. I traded in all my Nikon gear and never looked back. As to battery use… are you using Oly batteries? Even with non Olympus batteries I get way, way, more shots than 60. Confusing menus can be easily solved with Darrel Young’s books “Mastering the _____________” (fill in the blank camera name). I adore both my M5 and M1 III. You also can really push your ISO with both cameras.

HI Everyone.
Last summer I got a used OMD EM1 mk1 .
with Zuiko 14-150 4.5 -5.6 ..
extremely disappointing with this camera .
Menu is very confusing .
Low light auto focus is rubbish
Battery Life ( even with new battery ) is about 60 shots .
Yet this camera had extremely good reviews ( and still has )

Was thinking of getting another mft camera maybe the OMD EM1 later versions are better ?
Or do I forget MFT and stick to proper DSLR ?

I use also a D300s which is marvelous and was thinking of getting a D7200 as well as I have nikon lenses.
I did like the OMD for it's compact size etc which is why I got it .

So question is are the newer MFT cameras better ?
Or should I stick to tried and tested Nikon DSlR

My photo interests are Street Life / Protests , demonstrations / Night club shots ( so low light capability is important )

Cheers
HI Everyone. br Last summer I got a used OMD EM1 m... (show quote)

Again, you are using older equipment/tools rather than new equipment/tools. As good as the E-M1 mkI was, I would not buy one used at this time for me. I have the E-M1 mkII and mkIII. I have found them to be more than adequate for low light shooting. But the new OM-1 is a step above all the other 4/3rds bodies for low light shooting at this time. Rather than try and "milk" good images out of much older equipment, try newer equipment/tools. Again, the newer scroll menu system is much easier to use. And use the Super Control Panel while learning the scroll menu.

No single format is perfect. And there are features that smaller and larger formats have as pros and cons. But you have indicated that size, weight, cost, and low light ability are important to you. You owe it to yourself to at least look at the equipment/tools that might meet your needs and/or wants. At least look at the OM-1 with a 12-45 f4 or 12-40 f2.8 or 12 f1.2. I know that I would have no problems shooting a dark concert with my older E-M1 mkIII let alone the new OM-1.

If you have Nikon lenses...dump the MFT...there is no point having two camera systems unless both systems are making serious coin for you...always do the math.

Nikon is easily the better system.

Well I shoot both MFT and FF Nikon and they both serve me very well. I get a lot of use out of my Sony RX10MIV too. The problem is 10 year old technology with a slow lens. Going to 8 year old technology, the D7200, is a marginal upgrade. While there are many good reasons to stick with MFT, if he only has that lens, Nikon could be a good option, depending on what Nikon lenses he has. If they’re DX lenses there’s a good chance they’re not great for low light either.

Apparently, proof reading eight words really is waaaay too much for you. If you want to invent a new "old wisdom saying" it only works if it actually makes sense.

Yeah, I love my Z9 but my OM-1 is no slouch. If I’m hiking it’s no brainer which system I take.

I have had a EM-1 mark 1 for years and NOTHING improper about it. WHY are you doing low light with such a slow lens ? Camera is not your problem, lens selection is. Get a fast nifty fifty and your shutter speed will improve as well as your keepers... Oly 50mm is a great underrated lens. I don't understand your battery OR menu problems... I can shoot all day on a battery and if you go into the menu with a CLEAR mind it makes a lot of sense.
You use a 50 as your normal ??

Actually as I stated in a reply a couple posts up, I was thinking in FF terms as always.... I corrected myself as it actually is the 25mm 1.8. I have to admit that no, it is not my normal, as the 12-40 is so good it stays on my EM. That little 25 1.8 though is VERY sharp and VERY small and VERY cheap and epitomizes what MFT is all about. At 1.8 it is fast enough to do street shots which have really started to interest me and could very well be a great one lens choice for a solution which checks all the boxes... BTW, I also do a " NOT " kit which is Canon and utilizes older lenses and since does not have IBIS/ILIS is relegated to tripod use as I have a bit of the shakes... I find myself on a limited budget more and more and have been trying to get the most of what I have instead of being a wannabe collector...

I have the MKII version. I bought it used a couple of years ago and I have no regrets about it's performance. The menu however will drive you to drinking.

But how often do you need the menu? Almost everything I need quick access to is on the Super Control Panel.

And the reason the menu is so complicated is that there is so much that these cameras can do.

Some menus are far better organized than others, for cameras with similar features. Of course, what you are used to has a lot to do with what you think about them. But I knew when I got my Lumix that the menu was structured better than menus on the Canons and Nikons I had used before it.
