Nature Photos beg for critiquing
I have a Kodak DX camera which is more automatic than not, though I can adjust it some. I had a film Canon SLR with all the lens, but I never had the right lens for the photo op. Therefore, I opted out for a digitized version, and went for the 10X zoom. It's fun to play around with and challenging to try to get good pictures.
I'm new to this forum and notice some of you are very knowledgeable and give helpful critiques so here are some new challenges.
plant struggling on beach
spider web at night
Dragon fly or helicopter
I am a rank amateur so for what it is worth. I would have cropped the top picture closer and tried to show more detail. It looks a little over exposed to me also. I like the spider web, but it may have had more impact if you had off centered it more and cropped it tighter.
I love the detail and color in the dragon fly. The plant in the background is a little distracting, but over all I like it a lot.
Thank you for the chance to practice my critiquing skills. They help me look at my own work more objectively.
What do some of you pros think?
I am not a pro by any means, but here goes. The beach photo does look like it is overexposed, awesome job on the spider web, I would be interested in knowing about the exposure... (well maybe it isn't kosher to ask). My favorite is the dragonfly, it almost looks regal.

Not only is it kosher it is requested that you list your settings when posting a photo for critiquing.
I think these are great! The dragon fly shot needs a little help in contrast and structure but you have a fine set of photos here.

I'm a greenhorn at this and didn't know it was requested to give exposure for critiquing. I have an automatic camera and don't do much with it except for the F stops. However, I checked my photo program and it said the spider web was IS) 400 and 1/2 sec. F 2.8. The dragonfly was ISO 80 1/160th with F 3.2. Is that what you want?
The beach was 1/800 with ISO 80 and F 4.5
I LOVE the spider web! It looks amazing!
Thanks britrogers30. I find webs fascinating and photograph them often, but the morning dew on this one reflected by the light made it special.
Love the texture of the beach shot!
The dragon fly (or as well call em, mosquito hawk) is beautiful!
Thanks. Who knew a bug could have such a face on him.

that first image has an amazing amount of intrigue, there is a lot left up to the imagination there, that is wonderful, Bravo...
the second one would make a fantastic website business card...It must be getting late, I don't even think that is funny, lol...
Great choice of subject. With limited control in the camera you might consider Picasa for editing, it's free and the simple adjustments are easy to do.
