Dang Gort, I tipped my cabin cleaner $20.00 & got great service too! (If I'd known they were charging $16.00 per day in the dinning room I would have ordered two plates of salmon & lobster daily! Lol) rpm

That's okay. There is usually somebody on board that "makes our cruise," so we tip them extra. I have to tell you we met a couple that told us on their first cruise they didn't eat in the dining room because there were no prices on the menu. They were afraid it was too expensive and didn't know it was included.

Sippyjug, funny you mentioned fuel consumption... A party of two were 30 min. Late getting back to the boat & the captain gave them a stern verbal lashing over the PA; said they wouldn't be smiling after they got the bill for diesel consumption for 30 min. We all (2,900 people) were jeering & cat calling them as they rode back up to the boat on a rickshaw. It was really funny!

On Viking River Cruises, the boats leave ports on time whether all passengers are back or not. Many have endured expensive taxi tides to catch up.

I don't doubt it... Our captain said by maritime law they are required to wait 30 minutes. It may certainly be different on river cruises... At any rate it was a very eye opening experience on how NOT to behave on a cruise.

Well, you know what they say... " A bad penny always turns up." RPM

By the way, been to The Black Canyon of the Gunnison lately? I love that place!

It sounds like an automatic tip. We once took a cruise that was "No Tipping." That was a bad experiment. I'm sure the company didn't continue that.

It’s called a forced tip--pretty standard on cruises.

All expenses are laid out in your contract...most never bother to read them...and are surprised on the cruise.

Hey Jerry! You are my favorite UHH member... thanks for your input. I've learned alot about cruises just from posing this question. My stepfather set this whole thing up, & he is very narcissistic & will not share any information. It was an experience in patience... RPM

C. My stepfather set this whole thing up & he's one of those that do NOT share any information. His heart is not in his body... You don't dare pose a question unless you already know the answer... hope that puts some light on the subject...

That's fine.
It's in every airline ticket...you have ever purchased.
Never put your name to a contract...you have not read.

I took 3 days to read my last mortgage contract. My lawyer goes over it anyways...but I still need to read it.

Always...always read contracts...even if you have to postpone signing...not airline tickets of course...that should take 5 minutes.

My stepfathers heart is NOT in his body. Next time I cruise it will be without him on the boat...

Upon boarding the first place I visit other than my room is the pursers desk. I proceed to tell them and note it in writing that no additional charges for tips or appreciation are to be made under my account. I will take care of all tips when leaving… I don’t drink.. why tip the wine steward, the bartender… don’t gamble so why tip the casino manager, etc. They may get upset but nothing can be done about it.

Look...if you are counting the pennies on your vacation...

You probably cannot afford a vacation.

Wait until you can...

Jimbart, good idea... I don't think I will be going on another cruise unless it's to Alaska. I've got an A.R.E. truck cap on the back of my Chevrolet & a route from Houston to Bellingham Washington mapped out. My plan is to ride the AMH (ferry) to Ketchikan & eat lots of salmon as long as I want... wish me luck! RPM
