Maybe I'll switch to mirrorless when the next big development takes place but for now I'm happy and believe I will be for the foreseeable future. I hope it doesn't get to the point Tums doesn't work anymore.[/quote]

I just read an opinion that A d850 shutter could last beyond 300,000 actuations. My old body doesn't have that many left

Whatever floats your boat.
I borrowed a mirrorless camera in the very beginning...and could not 'unsee' the advantages.
Never looked at DSLR's again...and that was years ago.
The advantages have only widened...since DSLR research is...practically zero now.

As long as you don't realize what you are missing...you can maintain it.

Just curious as to why you feel the need to denigrate the OP’s recent excitement of acquisition of a great camera? Do you have a D850 or have you ever used one? I have and I love it. One of the best cameras I’ve ever owned and based upon the list of my cameras in my signature, I think I have a qualified opinion. Great images, I love the Nikon ergonomics and functionality. I do admit that I do not do video, but for stills, I am extremely pleased.

This forum is a wonderful place. I have met some kind, knowledgeable, generous and helpful people here. I have learned a lot and I try to help others whenever I can. But I have noticed that there are a few people who just have to say something, something nasty or spiteful, just to get some kind of attention. For those of you who fit this description, if you can’t say something nice, constructive or helpful, please think about not saying anything.

It is not denigrating at all.
Just wanted to remind people that the term greatest is so loosely used on this camera that was lacking even when introduced compared to contemporaries if one looks at it overall. One good point out of many seldom makes anything the greatest.

In My Humble Opinion, I believe it is a trained eye and a photographer that is well versed in this art. I do not believe that the camera is the limiting factor. That camera can be medium format, film, digital or mirrorless. One is not better than the others. Each one’s purpose will differ depending upon the photographer’s needs.

Skill is necessary but the tool must be up to what is trying to be done.
I have not seen too many pros in the Tour de France using 1950 Schwins.
Yet those bicycles are still good to use if you are into retro and old.
Exact same with mirrorless in the last 3 years vs all DSLRs.

My wife is encouraging me to buy a mirrorless for an upcoming trip. She thinks lighter will be better. I haven’t disavowed the weight difference as it is not that much lighter. She is usually ambivalent about my purchases, rarely encourages but never complains. I wish I’d listened to her encouragement when we visited the Gibson guitar factory in Nashville.

Oh God. Do not purchase a new camera body just before a big trip. Give yourself 4-6 months to completely adapt to the inevitable "little changes" even within the same camera system. As a Photo Safari group in Kenya we (the group) made a couple stay at the lodge two days because they were badgering others re settings for their new camera that they "forgot" to bring the manual for.

Also download the manual to your cell phone incase you forget something in those 900+ pages.

It all depends on the photography you do. I got a Z6 under $1000 because everyone upgraded to Z6II and above. The images are roughly the same as my D750. The differences are the ibis for me as I use a Sigma 105mm F 1.4 a lot. With it I was able to lower my shutter to 1/6 to get a shot of a drummers clear face but with a great motion blur on his hands. Don't upgrade to upgrade. Upgrade to do something you couldn't in the past. If your particular photography doesn't warrant it then don't upgrade.

Maybe one day I'll go mirrorless if I get bad GAS, live long enough, or some unforeseeable event causes me to. I know it's the future but I have really gotten some good deals on some great gear in the last few months and for that I've got to say thanks to some of you who have gone mirrorless. I made the move to full frame with a used D850, bought used Nikkor lenses: 14-24mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, all f2.8s, and a Nikkor 200-500mm. Camera and lenses all in excellent to like new condition and US models as well. The lens at about 1/2 price of new or even less.

Silent photography, IBIS, and improved lens designs are significant features that attract many to mirrorless rather than any desire to flood the used DSLR market with equipment, though I welcome that feature, too.

The future will be a "cameraless" camera. It will be a pair of glasses that we can blink to actuate and a Bluetooth type technology will transmit the image to a remote storage device located anywhere or directly to the web.

I have mirrorless but I also have a D750 so I have taken advantage of some great deals on F lenses.

I do not understand the rush to buy mirrorless. My plan is to continue to use my Nikon D7200 and D7100 with Nikkor lenses until they fall apart.
But as it is more than likely that I will fall apart before they do, my kids will inherit the Nikons and continue
to use them for years to come.
The money saved by not going mirrorless will go for travel to exotic lands with great photo opportunities.

Why do you need to understand? It’s their decision, not yours.

Well, I havn't found a mirror yet on any of my legacy Digital Pocket Cameras!
My Nikon F4004 and D3100 both have mirrors, but that is about it.

If I had known, and maybe I should have, this post would turn into a mirrorless vs mirrored I wouldn't have posted it. Shoot what you want guys, I don't care.
