Maybe one day I'll go mirrorless if I get bad GAS, live long enough, or some unforeseeable event causes me to. I know it's the future but I have really gotten some good deals on some great gear in the last few months and for that I've got to say thanks to some of you who have gone mirrorless. I made the move to full frame with a used D850, bought used Nikkor lenses: 14-24mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, all f2.8s, and a Nikkor 200-500mm. Camera and lenses all in excellent to like new condition and US models as well. The lens at about 1/2 price of new or even less.
Maybe I'll switch to mirrorless when the next big development takes place but for now I'm happy and believe I will be for the foreseeable future. I hope it doesn't get to the point Tums doesn't work anymore.

All I can say is that when I bought my canon R6 it made a world of difference with my photography.

The subject tracking refined eye, face, and head detection functions have made a big difference in the pictures I've been able to capture. Photos of my high energy toddler grandchildren are much easier to capture than ever before.

Also the stated "five-axis sensor-shift image stabilization that compensates for up to an impressive eight stops of camera shake for truly effective compensation to suit handheld shooting with slower shutter speeds" has given me more keepers than I ever had with my old 6D model. I'm enjoying my hobby more now than ever before...

I recommend you should at least rent one to see the difference it makes... I'm glad that I made the change.

You certainly captured the best of the best gear! My D850 is the only body I did not sell when I added mirrorless to my toolbox. Well done!

Why is the D850 called the best?
It was good at stills only.
It was a miserable failure in live view and video, which it had so would be expected to be decently operational.
There were numerous cameras far superior overall with full capabilities vs a multidimensional camera that could only do one of those dimensions decently and fail at the others.
Doesn't sound like a best camera to me by far.

My Canon kit is DONE with a 6D and 2 60Ds... IQ on these is good enough to handle top EF lenses. I would like a 135 F 2.0 or a 85 1.4 and I will be happy. Olympus takes care of my NON tripod shots due to my shaky hands and Great IBIS. Canon gear is my tripod and monopod gear....Maybe a few more lenses and I am good to go.

Just curious as to why you feel the need to denigrate the OP’s recent excitement of acquisition of a great camera? Do you have a D850 or have you ever used one? I have and I love it. One of the best cameras I’ve ever owned and based upon the list of my cameras in my signature, I think I have a qualified opinion. Great images, I love the Nikon ergonomics and functionality. I do admit that I do not do video, but for stills, I am extremely pleased.

This forum is a wonderful place. I have met some kind, knowledgeable, generous and helpful people here. I have learned a lot and I try to help others whenever I can. But I have noticed that there are a few people who just have to say something, something nasty or spiteful, just to get some kind of attention. For those of you who fit this description, if you can’t say something nice, constructive or helpful, please think about not saying anything.

When I bought my D850 in 2018 (and my second one last year), it was without one bit of concern for the video capabilities of the camera. When I shoot video (which goes back 50 years), I use a video camera. And on the rare occasion that I do use my D850 (or D810 or D500 or D300s) to shoot a video clip, I switch to manual focus. And I avoid manic, distracting panning and zooming. So any of those cameras will work just fine.

Bill Burkholder has described a case in which it is beneficial to have one camera that does stills and video well. He doesn't use a D850, and that's fine. But there are many reasons why the Lumix system that he so successfully uses won't really work for me. But my D850 and D500 have proven to be perfect. And I will continue to occasionally mention them to folks who seem to do similar things to what I do.

It is tiring to hear would-be authorian photo dictators try to campaign for a single solution for all problems or to cast aspersions on solutions others have found.

My Nikon D7000 had over 140,000 shutter releases so I bought a Nikon D7500. I have a mirrorless Sony A6000, but I hate having to constantly turn it back on and carrying 5 spare batteries, because that camera eats them alive. It is light weight though.

I too own the Sony A6000 and unlike you take one spare battery for a shoot or 2 if I'm going for the whole day to multiple locations. In the later case only when it is a cold winter day do I get to use the 3rd battery.
One setting I know helps to save juice? Under custom settings, The gear icon, set the pre- AF to off. It is the first setting on the 3rd column.
I don't use any of the wireless features either. I have a fellow user who bought off brand batteries and we did a test and he found out the old adage, you get what you pay for.
Hope this helps.

Don’t be quick to jump on the mirrorless wagon. Remember, it is in motion and you could fall off and bump your head.
For many years, I would use film. I love it no matter what. It is a great standby and keeps me from getting lazy. When digital was the way to go, I picked up a brand new Canon EOS Rebel 2000. While everyone tried to convince me dSLR was the newest wave, I held on tight and didn’t let go. Then in 2012 I earned some overtime pay. I banked it for a 5D Mark II. Now I have a Mark IV. I have an interest in mirrorless but I’ll wait a few more years. I am not quick to jump on the wagon. Not just yet.

Every now and then I dust off my film camera and take it out for a roll.

When people tell me film is dead, I tel them no it isn’t. It just smells funny!

Paul Sager, I am a crotchety old coot from Brooklyn. Not a hipster!

Here's hoping you get to work more overtime soon.

I'm with you Doyle. My FF and Crop Sensor cameras take beautiful photos and as long as they do, they suit me just fine.

I don't shoot videos and seldom use live view, I like using the viewfinder when possible. In fact if the 850 didn't shoot video at all, I could care less.
