Hi,
I am looking to buy a new lens for my Nikon D80. I think I want a wide angle for some upcoming trips. How do I go about researching that type of lens and getting the best deal?
Thanks.
Cathy
Hi Kathy there are several sites comparing the different lenses on the web dpreview is one along with cnet. You can also look to some of the online retailers (amazon b&h photo, adorama) and get some pretty good reviews by customers that have purchased the lens and why it works for them. Im not that familiar with the Nikon brands but what I remember is that your camera is a crop body and a lot of people have had good luck with the sigma 10 - 20mm lens. Fairly inexpensive and good quality (I myself have one and use it often) good luck and hope you find what your looking for.
Cathy,
To find out what lens is good for your way of picture taken just rent a lens or several get the feel for it during your trip and when you like the lenses buy a new one.
For wide angle shots and as a walk around lens look at the sigma lens 18 - 250 mm or the 10 - 20 mm wide angle F3.5
good luck and have a nice trip,
Robert
Cathy,
I have the Nikon D300, and recently did some research on this subject. I ended up purchasing the Nikon 12-24mm lens - I got it used on Ebay, and am very happy with it.
However, if you care to review the info provided on Ken Rockwell's site
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/nikkor.htmHe was spoke highly if the Nikon 12-24, but was really impressed with the Tokina 11-16.
Check them out.......Jerry
