I read an article about their heads - special padding. : )

We have a sassafras tree out front that is a go-to spot for all area woodpeckers. After a few years, the holes gradually close. The woodpeckers work on both the trunk and the branches. If there weren't bugs inside, they wouldn't make holes. I'll post a picture or two later.
