Been there, but do not remember the sign on the hills a la Hollywood!
There is great shopping there, and I bought some great watches.
The Turks I met are great merchants, and will sell you until you either run or buy!!

I was there in 2006 and bought a rug and an ornate earthenware plate.

I was stationed at a remote USAF site a few hours drive north of there back in 1991-1993. Been to the town many times. Don’t remember the sign being there but it could have been as we only went over to the pier for the restaurant and the castle. One of the biggest draws was “Beer Ally”. Basically an ally lined with back-to-back restaurants, disco’s and nightclubs. Shopping was OK except the prices were inflated to take advantage of the cruise line passengers. Same items in Izmir were 1/3 the price. Hotels were $7 a night including breakfast and dinner. 5 star hotels over on the beach were $20 a night. We were getting 3000TL (Turkish Lira) per dollar as the exchange rate (1991). By the time I left the rate was over 50000 to 1. I brought back a LOT of stuff!

Yes, I met several street vendors that were selling genuine fake watches at a reasonable price.
