Sooooo clearly here you persist at the pot calling the kettle black.

I notice you never answer my questions about your language and spelling. Why is that user BJ?

Have you tried it using the DOF preview button on the front of the camera? On the 50D it is on the lower right side of the lens mount. on my Rebel SL2 it is right next to the lens release button on the left side.

And yet another of the "old wives tales". The preview button has a use, this helps you to visualize the 'look' of the image before you make the photograph but it does not tell you what is to be in focus and what will not. That is what the 'depth of field scale on the lens barrel is for. But keep on using tools on a camera in ways these were never intended nor designed.

And to the other poster about to troll, the idea that one comes to the Hedgehog for help and explanations by seasoned and experienced individuals, just know that we feel for your inability to need to read more than a few words or sentences. Just continue in ignorance.

as soon as you mentioned the red dots in your viewfinder that keyed me to your solution. Not only shoot full manual as far as aperture and shutter speed, turn off your autofocus and focus manually at the hyperfocal point or at the miniature you want in sharp focus. and, equally important, use a sturdy tripod.

You search my post, you have no life.
How would know my astronomy level?
You saw my lust of scopes and you have no clue to what they are.
Please list in any order your reason for the rotflmfaq. Any order is fine. You make stupid statements about my astronomy level so lets see how you came up with that conclusion. Lack of an adequate list of your facts will prove you are a troll

I use that button and they are ok for a gross representation but for fine ficus I have doubts.
I'm a retired dentist and did a lot of intramural shots and it difficult to shoot back teeth and front due to depth of field issues. I did a lot of cosmetic work and front teeth are in a sorta flat plane. Going from front tooth to back is where it got tricky. Usually exposed to the problem area and let the adjacent teeth focus fall as they may.
I had a great ring light
