That's why I always get the first or second appointment at any medical center. Even if I have to schedule days later. That way I can be the one to make the Dr late and the rest of you can wait. Lol

Definitely! I always try to get an early appointment, but my physical next week is at 2:30. I'll probably miss dinner.

It's interesting that I get a text, email, and phone call to check-in. With one place if I check in by one method or the other their systems can see that I checked in. At another facility even though I have checked in by text or email and not by phone I have to check in all over again at the front desk. I love technology when it works and not so much when it doesn't.

Right, and when I call tech support, or whatever, I have to enter all my info. When I finally speak to a person, I have to give her all the information again.

I'm going for a blood test on Monday, a week before my annual physical. I received an email letting me pre-check-in. I had done this before, and it was no big deal. This was a big deal!

It took me at least fifteen minutes, including copying both sides of my two insurance cards and driver's license. So many questions! If they want me to do this before my physical next week, I'm going to decline. What used to be a family practice changed after the founding doctor retired. It has been "absorbed" by two or three large medical conglomerates, and everything has become more institutional. Too bad.

I'm supposed to arrive fifteen minutes before my appointment. It's almost insulting that they pre-add waiting time to my visit. šŸ˜‚

Ha. Not an hour ago, my wife was going nuts over the same thing, having to do a pre check in that her doctor requires every three months now.

It's a shame how things have changed. When I go for my physical next week, the doctor will be staring at his computer asking me questions. Then he'll check my breathing and heart, feel my neck, and send me on my way for another six months. I know I'll get another pre-sign-in next week. I'm going to ignore it.

There's a 'small' clinic at the local Kroger with a 'computerized' check in. That seems to be the ONLY way to let the clinic folks know that you're even there wanting something!

Ages ago, a buddy managed to injure himself to require a trip to the ER. The receptionist gave him a form, told him to fill it out - so, he dripped blood all over it! THAT got her attention!

As a retired family physician, I empathize regarding the wait. However, as a patient, I have almost always had and have to wait to be seen by anyone I saw. The reason is you most likely have a fine physician who gives you the thirty to forty minute extra time you need if your problem is more severe than expected. For example, on performing a physical exam on my Veterinarian, my final act was his rectal exam. He exercised daily and appeared to be in stellar health. To my SURPRISE I found a rectal cancer the size of a henā€™s egg. I want you lmpatient Patients opinion. Would you have me tell him he had a rectal cancer, but, to come back in in 2weeks to discuss it, or have me spend an extra 30minutes explaining the problem and personally talking to the specialist To whom he was being referred. Things like this happened every day. My patients generally told me they didnā€™t mind waiting, because they knew I would give each of them the time they needed. We did not computerize our records. Computerized records slow things down that much more. I retired this past summer after 54 years of practice.

A while back, my wife had a phone appointment. We waited several hours and did not even get a phone call telling us that thee doctor was too busy so that we could do other things other than sit by the phone waiting for the doctor.

You make a good point. While we may be visiting the doctor for what we consider a routine checkup or minor issue, things happen that are beyond anyoneā€™s control.

Everyday. Frequently, it was emergencies. Very little in the scope of a true FamilyPhysician is planned under his control. Emergencies and same day illness calls happen everyday. Our office policy was to never turn away ā€œsickā€ calls if they called in before quitting time on the clock. We usually worked until 7:00 pm or so. Often times later , sometimes earlier.

In the past, I've had to wait because of an emergency, but my doctor found a way around that. Emergencies are told to go to the ER. If you don't have an appointment, don't show up. When I say "my doctor," I mean the huge conglomerate that now owns and runs the practice.

They are using the pre check to generate a 4 page computerized medical record. This is used to document a medical record that helps justify a level 4 (out of five) ā€œencounterā€ charge for your < 15 minute office visit. Those computerized records they present are a sham. I know. All my consultants sent me copies when they saw my patients. I refused to do computerized records.

I wanted to make an appointment a while ago. I forget why. When I called, I was told to do it online. That required me to sign in. When I finally got to the appointment section, I had just two choices: a physical exam and something else that didn't apply. I checked physical exam. When I arrived, both the nurse and the doctor were surprised that I wasn't there for a physical.

Iā€™ve read all of these. Seems like most of you are P.O. At you physician. Iā€™ve waited my turn for > 75 years, but, what your turn involves now is a lot less than it used to involve. When I started practicing medicine, the charge was $5/ visit. Did not take appointments. First come first serve. We worked every day until we ran out of patients. Never ran out of patients. Made more spendable money then than 50 years later. Profit margin steadily dropped during my entire career. Less than 10 % when I retired.
