I don't know about that, but here is the biggest bird in my front yard this morning.

We make that joke too. This guy and about 20 of his friends come by almost every day. I could have a real turkey shoot in my front yard. (I wouldn't do that. I've given up trying to keep them away and just ignore them as much as possible.)

I live in California in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Placerville. We are less than an hour outside of Sacramento. This area has a lot of turkeys. The city of Placerville had to catch and move a whole flock of them that were attacking pedestrians. The ones that visit our property are not so aggressive. They've gotten used to us just walking past them. They come up to the back door and peer through the glass. I just took another picture about 15 minutes ago. There are others across the street and too far out to show in one picture. My wife can see a total of 17 from the front window, and there are some in the back as well. The males were all puffed out this morning. It must be mating season.

I'm also going to post a picture I took previously. I've posted it here before.

One of our neighbors told us that our neighborhood was infested with peacocks until a few years before we moved here. Then they disappeared. They also mentioned noise and droppings.

I lived in California from 1961 to 1977. Mostly in Southern California but never saw any turkeys down there!

You live in a beautiful area. Placerville - on the main highway - and not too far - on up to Tahoe. A long time since I've been up there, though. If not snowed in, you're maybe two hours or so from Tahoe? My many years of going to the High Sierras, summer and winter, were spent mostly around Mammoth.
