Having both a Nikon d850 and a d500 - why?

Did your D500 get more use before you got the Zfc ?

Not really. I just wanted to put my toe in the MILC water. With the 40mmf2.8 or the kit 16-55 it's a nice compact package. Once I have to add the adaptor to use DSLR lenses, it's not longer that light or compact. If, and it's a big if, I begin to add MILC lenses, it will be very slowly and carefully. With a "gang" of DSLR lenses, that may be a long, long time.
But one of our popular Hoggers says that (:)) without a mirrorless, I 'm less of a man - tongue firmly in cheek.

Pentax has both the K-1 {which is a “field camera” with a flippy LCD} and a K-3 {an “action camera” with good buffer performance}. If both fit into your budget …..

Thaz good to know.

My personal opinion is that it's good to have a minimum of two camera bodies. (1) it gives you a backup. (2) it gives you options for the different capabilities of the two bodies. (3) You can keep different lenses on each body and quickly switch between focal lengths without fumbling with a lens change.

If you use more than one body, I think it's advisable to rename your images to include date and time in the file name. That makes your file names unique and makes it easy to arrange your files chronologically no matter which body took them.

Exactly what I do.
I keep a 28-300 (or larger) on the D850 and the 14-30 on the Z9.

Also changed the naming convention on the D850 as well as indicating it in the transfer using Nikon transfer 2 software.

Hes not popular ... just ubiquitous.

FWIW I continue using very many SLR lenses adapted to EVF cameras. An extra inch from the adapter doesnt bother me. It was there along built into SLR bodies.

I dont need to be rid of the inch nor do I lust for slightly more compact native EVF lenses, cuz size reduction was never my priority. Silence mode, better focus, the EVF itself, and IBIS are my priorities.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I understand that many here really do prioritize size and weight. They dismiss m4/3 and so they fill these pages with their self imposed conundrums. I just view all that as cheap entertainment.
For me its not about size and weight but it IS about pretty much everything else !
Ok one comment two questions: I use(d) a brace of D700’s one with 24-120 one with 18-35, and my D300s goes with the 80-400.
I just two days ago got the D850…wow! Now I’ll need the D500 to maintain the same familial layout and battery packs. But I still love my D700’s and D300S. Now lastly, been thinking about that Zfc, how do you like it? I love the form factor but have MFT e-m5’s for travel, unless I can maybe make the ZFc work
I have both Nikons - D850 and D500 but find I use the D500 very little and I'd like comments from Hoggers who have and use both, about the advantages of one over the other. I also have a Df which can use the older D (screw drive) lenses and a Zfc which offers lightweight and a crop sensor.
When I owned both, I used the D500 for wildlife because I could reach out more with my existing lenses and the D500 shot at 10 frames per second vs. the slower D850.
I used the D850 for landscape, portraits, and a general shooting camera.
I really enjoyed both as, in my opinion, they were among the best DSLR's ever produced.
PS. I had vertical grips for both.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.
I have been taking two camera bodies out with me for years. Then again, I shoot wildlife almost exclusively, so I have one with a long telephoto and the other either a short zoom or a macro lens. I use a Cotton Carrier G2 twin holster in order to carry them comfortably.
I have both. I use the D500 and the lighter 18-300 mm when I want the lighter weight while traveling in Europe. The smaller camera bag travels easier on the smaller planes.
If I am careful composing the shot I can get good 20 x 30 prints that were not cropped to hang on the wall. Most the time we are hiking trails with less than ideal trails and significant elevation changes. I do not usually carry the tripod. Sometimes I wish I had.
Here in the states I use the d850 with the 16-35 f/4, f/2.8 24 to 70 and the 70 to 200; but that camera bag with flash added and a tripod is heavy.
Tuesday we were looking at some shots I took in Sicily in 2012 with the d5000 and I am so thankful I have the newer cameras. More pixels can be more forgiving
I know this is a photo site but I have to ask.
Have you played all of them?
Whats the rent on the house you have to store them?
I assume they are insured?
Like some others answering, I carry 2 cameras, one with a wide angle zoom, the other a longer zoom. Many times I have missed a shot due to time lost while changing the lens! Plus it greatly(!) reduces the chance of dust getting on the sensor.
