The Nikon 1 V1 and V2 had EVFs that are quite good.

I have the 1 V1 (and a J1) and use it with a full auto adapter and my AF-P lenses - the 70-300 AF-P VR becomes a 189-810 monster that I can shoot one handed and delivers very fine photos, and attached to a 150/170 to 500/600 MM tele works very well (but you still end up with a tiny camera on a huge lens. No, the resolution is not quite up to what my D7100/7200 series offer, but that does not stop me from making wonderful still life bird photos and other subjects as well. It is not a BIF tracking machine. It and the J1 (one of my snapshot cams) get much the same amount of use as my Sony Nex 6 and A6000 (two more jems in my view).

There is a whole lot more to wonderful photos than "latest greatest/super resolution/high dollar bodies" that everyone seems to think will make them better photographers - NOT - Knowledge/technique can turn average specifications into superb photos, just takes a tad more effort.

The weak link for many of these little wonders is the auto-extension/retraction zoom lenses, they (the lenses) suffer from connection and wire break issues way down inside where repair/parts is non-exsistent. Used with the Nikon 1 full auto adapter this becomes a non-issue. The little lenses are convenient, but if lost it is not a deal breaker, as there are a number of Nikon (and other) lenses that will work wonders....and you are using the sharpest part of those lenses to fill a smaller sensor but get 2.7X crop factor, I like and use mine often.
My $.02

The Nikon 1 series was a compact 11mm wide DSLR Nikon that had lenses that only fit the series. The lenses had an odd size 42.5mm filter thread.
There were 3 lenses 10mm 10-30mm and a 30-110mm that only fit the Nikon 1 J1.

Launched 2011 with a 1" sensor, Mirrorless with focus within the sensor. Off the market April 2, 2015.

Camera very low cost used is a prime candidate for DIY conversion to full spectra IR.

Nikon 1 cameras were not DSLRs, they were mirrorless bodies with interchangeable lenses. I owned a V5 for several years.

Yes, correct... Digital Single Lens actually have multi lenses that are interchangeable. DSLR is a term that is probably misused by many, certainly me! Perhaps the R stands for Reflected by the mirror which is not in a mirrorless.

SLR is Single Lens Reflex. The digital age simply added the D for Digital to the designation.
The proper industry designation for the Nikon 1 series would actually be MILC, standing for Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera, of any sensor size.
Some with viewfinders are designated EVIL, for Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens.

OK, that's my lesson for the day. 🀣🀣
Time to go get my taxes done!
Happy shooting with whatever you are currently using! πŸ‘

IR conversion makes sense, since they're reasonably priced. Using it for normal photography? I'd rather have something else.

One thing the "What went wrong?" article missed was their atrocious marketing strategy. Early advertising (as exemplified by POP displays in Target stores and certain magazine ads) was aimed at fashion conscious, upwardly mobile females who would buy it for the name and travel to exotic locations with it. But either they couldn't really afford it, or they couldn't figure it out, or they were more interested in smaller P&S pocket cameras or smartphones.

To me, the advertising was too slick, too glossy, too devoid of information. They aimed the camera at non-technical people, when their very brand aura is a combination of rugged durability combined with technical excellence. It just seemed like a poseur product. My daughter describes people who want things like that with a hair flip and the statement, "Oooh, it looks like me! I want one of those. What is that?"

"Oooh, it looks like me! I want one of those. What is that?" Burk, That sounds like me at times... but my hair is sparse.

Just arrived last night is a Cellphone Microscope... just tested and it is sharp and clear... but it does cost $10 ! Jiusion 30X Zoom Bright LED...

Yes, the Nikon 1 series should have been a big seller. While we now look at 10 mpix as being low in its day it was the norm. My Kodak DC4800 was an advanced DSLR, ... it had a single lens... was intro in 2000 at 3.1 mpix ... it "broke the 3 mpix" level!! I retrieved/resurrected a JPEG heavy cropped photo taken with it; Topaz deNoise and Sharpen AI and Topaz Megapixel made a test photo clean sharp and with a large resolution for large print. The AI revolution is wondrous... if you don't believe me ask the beautiful Google Female Sentient Robot you keep in the garage.

I just bought one J1 for my collect with F adapter and the 10-30mm lens. I have to say it is a nice little camera. I did something funny with it by mounting my 200-500mm lens on itπŸ˜‚

That provides about a 540-1350mm equivalent full frame field of view... I'm sure there are cases where it would come in handy!

I have an AW1. The first one leaked and I sent it to Nikon. They sent me a refurbed replacement. That worked for about a year then failed. It's parked in my camera closet along with two lenses and an AW1 to Nikon adapter.

Anybody need a couple of nice lenses ??
