I have the Sony 7A IV, the current firmware in the camera is 1.10. There is an update to 1.11.
I have tried several times, with different SD cards and the *install* is always greyed out.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong and how I can correct it.

You said you have the 1.10 firmware in camera procedures is going from 1.10 to 1.11. I had no problem when I did mine in Jan. 2023.

Are you certain you have version 1.10? My understanding is that versioning went from 1.01 to 1.05, and then to 1.11. So, if in fact what you have installed is 1.01 (not 1.10), then you must first update to 1.05, and THEN to 1.11. (I don't believe there's any such thing as version 1.10.)

See Sony page here: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce-7-series/ilce-7m4/software/00280502

Now do you believe me?

Can't argue with that. Odd, though, that Sony site has no mention of v 1.10 for the a7iv. You might try contacting Sony support.

Have a look at this page. You might have installed an update intended for a different system. Again, though, you should likely contact Sony.

I don't think I could update to a different system. Seems I can't even update it to my camera.
I will contact B&H tomorrow for some help. I thought someone here might know.

…these are the things I would try to rule out human error…battery fully charged(at least 3 bars)…?camera is not hot (allow camera to cool down)…? Make sure the memory card is correctly removed from the computer…?
…and I would use a CFexpress card…if you just updated to 1.10 you will have to reformat the card again before you download 1.11 on the card…

Battery is fully charged, camera is not hot, memory card was removed correctly. I removed both SD cards and used a different one. This is my 3rd full frame Sony. There is no CF card in this camera, only SD cards.

I did not just update the firmware to 1.10. I always reformate the card.

This is NOT my first time updating firmware. I clearly know exactly what I am doing.
I was NIKON user before selling all my full frame (2 ) cameras and lenses. I have updated firmware before.

…I understand…that’s what is puzzling about this…I know that some people had trouble with updating to firmware 1.10 because they didn’t have 1.05 installed first and Sony was not being too helpful in supporting them…and then they pulled the firmware and reported that there was a bug in the update…

I don't understand why you're being snarky. People are trying to help you out and you're responding like an impetuous jackass. Call Sony support, or just figure it out yourself. And take a chill pill.
