6 months ago...I'd have said Canon...but the way they treat their customers by closing off lens choices...no thanks.

It's an attitude I refuse to invest in.

Obviously, you don't understand the reasoning behind Canon's action. I guess piracy is ok for some. By the way, there's absolutely nothing wrong with sticking with Sony. They manufacture fine products, that they designed themselves, or bought the rights to.

We each have three tools at our disposal: desire, effort and a camera. Shouldn't you buy a Canon?

I understand their reasoning perfectly...they have enough of a market share where they feel they can decide what their customers get...and you'll take it...obviously.

I won't.

If you think it's about...'protecting its customers'...I can locate a bridge to sell you.

I really don't give much of a rat's arse about the different bodies... To me the lens is what matters... I do Canon Olympus, Sigma and a little Sony. But if $$$ were not an issue, I would have the BEST Zeiss lens that money could buy on a top Sony Body. I will just say it one time, Zeiss has a certain look that the others don't. And NO, I do not want to do manual focus on my Canon body with a Zeiss lens. that is just MHO or IMHO as the case may be...

I posted the Yodobashi (Japan's largest chain of camera dealers) top ten sales cameras from the last two weeks of December 2022, showing which cameras were hot and trending.

And to be totally fair, here are Yodobashi's top sales cameras for the entire year of 2022. Some cameras did better in the beginning of 2022 and then dropped off a bit in sales as the year went on, others stayed strong in sales all year. These are their total 2022 yearly sales places in Japan. Japan is just one market, but it is the home to these brands.

1) Sony A7IV
2) Canon R5
3) Nikon Z9
4) Canon R6
5) Sony FX3
6) Sony A7SIII
7) Sony A7IV kit
8) Canon RP
9) Nikon ZFC

11) Sony A6400
12) OM System, OM-1
13) Nikon Z50 kit

16) Canon R6
17) Canon R10
18) Sony A1
19) Canon R7
20) Sony A7III kit

Cheers and best to you all. I share facts that relate to the thread subject, not fanboyism.

How can the Canon R6 be both 4th and 16? I must have missed something in my particle physics classes

Why would I?

It doesn't bother me in the least...I'm not a Canon shooter...not recently anyways.

If I were a Canon user 6 months ago...I would not be today.

Yes dumb move by Canon to close off third-party RF lens choices.

In my worldwide Facebook groups I administrate and moderate we have all brand users and many are now choosing NOT to go with Canon R cameras for that very reason, although you will never convince the fanboys here that Canon's decision has lost Canon any customers, LOL .

IMHO, sometimes when you are so big and profitable as Canon you can lose sight of how best to grow your base. Making it more costly for many to fully embrace your R system is not the right way to grow your mirrorless base. Canon's mirrorless competitors that ALL allow third-party lenses are benefitting already.

Cheers and best to you

When a leading global photography company begins making decisions based on the chattering class, they're sure to lose their way. If Henry Ford had asked people what they wanted, he would have bred faster horses, in all the colors of the rainbow.

Are you not doing the same thing yourself that you accuse Canon of doing? Personally, I like to hear the broadest range of knowledgeable opinions I can get.

I hate to tell you but Sony is twice the size as Canon. So perhaps Sony can afford to let third rate...err 3rd party lens makers into their market. LOL

With some cameras you just get lucky, with a Canon you make your luck.

I am an avid amatuer ,canon user with an 80d and a T7.
I am seriously thinking of buying a pro-quality mirrorless camera, the canon R5 or the Sony A7RV.
Why do you feel that Canon is the best Camera?
Are you a Canon Employee?

Everyone knows Canon is the best mirrorless camera, especially for the existing Canon owner. Your non Sony lenses will never work as well on a Sony body, just as non Canon lenses will never work as well on Canon bodies. This is because the mirrorless mount adapter is either a 3rd-party tool, or the camera-branded version is unknown to the non-branded lens manufacturer.

I wouldn't focus on a full-frame mirrorless EOS unless I had reviewed all my existing lenses, or made a decision of which full-frame lenses I would buy for my new full-frame camera. The EOS mirrorless cameras will automatically crop your EF-S lenses, so you could have lower pixel resolution than your current 24MP EOS 80D. That would be a lot of money to spend on a new camera that gives you less pixel resolution than what you have already.

The EOS R5 changed how we think about mirrorless cameras, how we think about photography, how we think about life. The others, not so much.
