Hello UH Braintrust,
I've got a Sony A6000 that I'd like to have repaired. I can't insert a card into the slot. I've tried to insert a few different cards (all "unlocked") to ensure it was a camera issue and not a card issue. I did a little poking around on the internet and found one particular repair service that, if memory serves, is an "official" Sony repair service. Problem is, the service's website says the minimum charge for a repair is $360, a price more than half what I paid for the camera new. I suppose it may legitimately cost that much for the repair, but I'd sure like to have an estimate done to see if the work could be done at a lower price. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
These folks have done work on some minolta lenses for me:
http://midwestcamera.com/They should be worth at least a phone call.
Good luck.
It can be hard to give up on an otherwise perfectly working older camera, except for when the cost of repair is unjustified.
Unfortunately today the cost of repairs in a majority of the cases exceeds the value of the camera or lens. I wanted to have the AF of my 18-70 f3.5-4.5 AF-S Nikon kit lens repaired but as I was expecting the cost exceeded almost twice the cost of a used lens in excellent condition.
I took the wise decision of using the lens manually.
It's time to replace the camera.
It seems to me if someone has a broken camera he/she wants to have it fixed. But if someone has a perfectly working camera he/she wants to replace with a newer model.

Hello UH Braintrust, br br I've got a Sony A6000 ... (

Sony farms their products out to an outside vendor, this is the one thing I do not like about Sony products.
Try Midwest Camera Repair.
Sony also has fixed repair costs, another reason I do not like it.

KEH repairs all my out of warranty items, and tyhey do it well. However, it may serve you to pick up a used unit instead, as MDI Mainer posted.
I had the same exact thing happen to my Sony A6000.... I turn the SD slot down a few puffs using a ROCKET "BULB" BLOWER and flashlight..... AH...a piece of plastic from an SD card. All is well now....
PS a LEXAR card..... my second card to act up.... "a different brand from here forward"
Could be something else but mine has been working fine since the cleaning. Try it and let us know.
good luck
I'll give it a shot--thanks!
