The only Nikon post-processing software I use is NX2, and that is limited. I find that in NX2 I can quickly adjust white, black and midtones quickly with their simple point tools.

My go to apps are: Helicon Focus (stacking), PSE, Perfectly Clear, On1, MS Photo and MS Paint. I do have Topaz Denoise, Gigapixel, and Sharpen but didn't find them to be all that grand. They sit there on my hard drive but I rarely open them unless I have a cell phone photo that I want to try to enhance.

I have Lightroom and will soon load it and start expanding use of it with RAW editing. I had to upgrade my PC to accommodate the large files generated by the Z9. Since I am recently retired, I have more time to tinker with this beloved hobby.

I like this comment form an earlier submission: You just have to make up your mind to use it till you get used to its idiosynchrocies.

I do use it, like it very well. Took a bit of doing and learning, but I got the hang of it.

I'm newish here, but hope dropping a link is acceptable. I watched this link and learned a lot, and still refer to it some. He has a accent but understandable - I strongly suggest watching:

I use it quite a bit and find it sufficient for most of my needs. I hate the ongoing cost of photoshop stuff.

Ditto !

Contrary for what others here have said, I use NX Studio most of the time for minor post production. I started years ago with Capture NX and have kept up with all the following versions. It is integrated with Nikon RAW format and does everything I need and is much easier to use than Lightroom or Photoshop, IMHO. It is totally free so nothing to loose in downloading and giving it a try. Always use the right tool for the right job. If you need extensive and complicated processing, use those tools. If you only need minor changes, use something much simpler and free that is designed to work with your specific brand of camera. In my experience, you get what you pay for. Free is always going to be a compromise over a full featured and expensive set of tools. There are numerous YouTube videos available (free) so easy to see real world explanations from people who are actually using the product and sharing the pros and cons of the software. As a bonus, NX studio works equally well on PC or Macintosh systems.

I use it and it does everything I need to do for most photos. The only real thing that I miss is layers but I don't need them that often. I do like the rendering of my Nikon files and love that it prints what I see on my screen.

I use NX Studio with the A1000 camera. It's RAW images are of the NRW format. My primary app is DXO PL6 but it will not process the A1000 images. I also have ON1 RAW 2022 which does handle this format

I have used the apps from Nikon since 2008. I prefer the Nikon Transfer app that is a part of the install to be the best way to rename the image files while moving them from the camera's SD card to computer invaluable. I rename files to match the project. The Nikon message center helps keep the apps and camera firmware up to date as well. It really is a suite of products to use with their cameras.

The cost is zero for product that will process a proprietary RAW format to either JPG or TIFF format. It does allow you to copy settings made from one image to another. There are local adjustments that use the UTouch technology from the NIK Collection. Nikon was an early adopter of that technology. It may have been Co- authored. Don't quote me though.

You only need to invest some time to decide. I installed it for a friend on her system as she is the one with A1000 & a D5500. I usually process her images for her as we usually shoot together. I find the new NX Studio to be a much better app than the old NX View.

I have gravitated to using NX Studio for culling and then post process in Lightroom Classic. I primarily shoot at my grandkids sporting events (soccer, basketball, baseball, etc.) and find that my biggest challenge is achieving focus or an appropriate focus point with my Nikon D5300. NX Studio shows the focus point when a locked focus is achieved. I have not been able to identify other software that provides the focus point.

I only use it to view my photos. I move them to Elements to work on them. I find that is the better way to go..

I use NX Studio almost exclusively. I never figured out the interface or workflow in any of the other editors like LR, Luminar, GIMP, Photoshop Elements or what ever. Guess I'm just not that into all the bells and whistles of the other programs. I've used Nikon's editors since I got my first DSLR D-70s back in the 2005, 2006 era. First ones were paid for but then they became free and I've stuck with them through every iteration including the most recent. Simple interface, works perfectly with Nikon's RAW files, has adequate tools for my needs, mostly close up flowers and occasional landscapes. My other editor of choice is Apple Photos for my iPhone 14 pro.

i have used view NX, view nx2. I deleted them. I couldnt do anything but open files to look at.

Currently have capture nx-d on desktop,, but its worthless. It wont open any NEF file made with my D7500. Wants me to download something from the Nikon website that doesnt exist on the nikon website..
