I don't think I have seen Astrud Gilberto before. If I had I would have remembered. I knew what a lovely voice she had but her total involvement with the song brings new meaning to the Girl From Ipanema. I afraid I have fallen in love with her.

Edit: No one should try to cover Louis Armstrong. Especially on What A Wonderful World

And background for the recording....

During a recording session in New York with João Gilberto, Antônio Carlos Jobim and Stan Getz, the idea of cutting an English-language version came up. Norman Gimbel wrote the English lyrics. João's wife, Astrud Gilberto, was the only one of the Brazilians who could speak English well and was chosen to sing. Her voice, without trained singer mannerisms, proved a perfect fit for the song

From Wikipedia......despite ?? heard it for years !!

The singer is Arpi Alto, not Astrud Gilberto.
Arpine Mikaeli Ter-Petrosyan (born September 30, 1990, Yerevan) whose artistic name is Arpi Alto ( Armenian: Արփի Ալտո ), is an Armenian singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. She was born in a family of artists and musicians. Her mother, Anahit Ter Petrosyan, is a German jazz artist.

The Girl from Ipanema is one of my favorite songs from that era (or just about any era!) Musically very complex, lovely rhythms. I know some percussionists, they consider bossa nova one of the harder rhythm schemes.

2 of the 3 videos are on Youtube, the 3rd one was probably removed for copyright issues.

Where do you find all this great music? I used to listen to "The Girl from Ipanema" all the time, but I never heard it so sweet in all my life. Arpi Alto could melt concrete with Her voice and those looks. Lord have mercy. The older I get I guess the more melancholy, not sure if that's the right word, I get, but listening to Her sing "You are so Beautiful" made me think of my Wife and the wet eye's are back. I am so glad you posted these covers. Thank you. I'll be up all night again, but I can't wait to hear more.

I'm not trying to take over your post, but have you heard Diana Krall sing "Besame Mucho", and her and the guitarist behind her tear up "Cry Me A River". And the 3rd one, "Love Me Like A Man" just gets the drummer all wound up.

Glad you liked and enjoyed her music. I have listed to most of Diana Krall's music. Love her. I have a number of sources and keep a journal of all the musicians I have enjoyed listening to plus numerous LPs and CDs and DVDs.
