Playing with my camera the other day, I was down at the port and took a tortally unmemorable general shot of the view. I then decided to test the zoom and, without moving from where I was, focussed on the tower of the cathedral that can be seen in the general shot and which I calculate, was about a kilometre away.
This was a hand held shot and I was surprised at the detail the camera was able to capture in spite of the distance and also having to cope with the tremor I have in my right hand.
At that time of the day at least I didn't have to cope with any heat haze.
