It makes perfect sense that if only the criminals had weapons then gun violence in the US would go down tremendously. Data from 2020 shows that 54% of gun deaths were suicide, which has NOTHING to do with your notion that “only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun.” It might be wrong to conclude that gun deaths would be cut in half with stricter laws, but it sure would make a difference.
Further, a 2020 study of gang-related deaths (not ALL deaths by criminals, but probably a good fraction) showed that only 9.7% of homicides in 2017 were by gangs.
I find it amazing that Americans don’t recognize that they are an anomaly in civilized countries of the world for both gun violence and gun ownership. The connection is screamingly obvious to any reasonable person (reasonable in this instance means being able to figure things out).

Sadly I think you are correct about waiting for the older generation (the ones that have had to fire guns in defense of our country) will die off and there will be none who remember having to oppose tyranny.

Tyranny? It’s not a big stretch to take your notion and say that people can and should have it their way regardless of what anyone else thinks; a having a gun gives those people the “courage” to enforce their opinion. So much for Democracy.

Yet the 2A for a lot of "gunslingers" is all about fighting the tyranny of your own government. And somehow that morphed into protecting your property, self defence, and stand your ground... all of which are used as justification to own -- and carry -- so many weapons needlessly.
