Spam was a treat when I was a kid!!
And I still like it once in a while!!
The only problem is I can't eat a whole can at one sitting !! and I haven't seen the "Short cans" in the stores lately.

mangles, Spam Singles pouches (2.5oz per pouch) are available online.

I recall my mother making spam as a sweet and sour dish served over rice. I ocasionally think about purchasing a can while shopping but after checking the fat content, I tend to set the can back on the shelf.

The idea of cooking on my Traeger smoker is interesting and could be a way to get some of the fat out of it.

Have you tried to find a list of heathy ingredients on a product? 🤣

If you were raised in Hawaii you would definitely know "Spam", a favorite is Japanese influenced "Spam Musubi"
another local favorite is "Spam and Eggs" breakfast. If you are older and were raised in Hawaii during the second World War you would know that spam was the closest cured meat to Ham that we could get, all the Ham went to
the Armed Forces Distribution Centers to feed our fighting men.

Oh well if it tastes good it must be bad for you. So you either eat the SPAM with all its fat or not eating it. Doesn't make sense trying to remove the fat from it.

I have very fond memories regarding Spam. When I was 10 I had an evening paper route, except on Sunday when I had to get up at 4:30 AM to deliver the huge special Sunday addition to all my customers before 6AM. As motivation to get up and get going on cold winter mornings my Mother would promise the two of us would have a breakfast of Spam, eggs and Hot Chocolate together when I returned after completing my rounds.
Those were very special times for me, alone with my Mother, since I was one in a family of 10.
I could smell the Spam cooking on the stove as I returned home. I usually ran the last few blocks to get home as soon as possible. The aroma of Spam cooking in a large cast iron skillet was/is heaven to me.

Sorry for the mistake in the second sentance. It should read 'edition' not 'addition'.

Those of us raised in the south were fortunate enough to become familiar with other meat-based delicacies like head cheese or souse, as it was called around here. Souse, like Spam, was composed of the parts of the hog that that most folks would have discarded as unuseable. Souse, or head cheese, was made of the hog’s head - snouts, ears, etc., spiced up, cooked and compressed into a mold. The gelatinous mess was stored as an aspic. Nothing went to waste when it came to slaughtering the hogs in those days.

Since I moved from TX to NC a couple years ago, I've had a slice of souse almost every morning for breakfast. Even before moving, I would visit my daughter in NC and load up my cooler with souse to bring back to TX.

A nephew of mine retired from Hormel a few years ago. They live in Austin, MN near the Spam Museum.

I read somewhere that the per capita consumption of Spam in Hawaii was the greatest of any state in the U.S.
