Photoshop Elements IS easy to use. If you go to the Editor page there is a 'Guided' section where it will walk you through the steps to edit photos until you're ready to do it yourself in the 'Expert' section....I've used it for years with great success.

Thanks everyone. An editor came with the camera but I don't like it.

What operating system do you have on your computer. If Windows, its photo viewing app has some basic tools that do a decent job (cropping, color saturation, lighting/exposure adjustment, clarity, spot healing tool, and a vignette tool). I use this tool a lot for improving snapshots or casual images. If you have a Mac, its photo editor is really quite good with more choices in adjustments of the image. I have Photoshop Elements that I use for much more involved image modification.

Hi. I am a non professional, casual photographer, who loves taking photographs. I just bought a new computer and need a program for editing my photos. I shoot with a Sony 10 iv. Since I don't shoot often, I feel there is no need for me to get a more advanced Photoshop program. Any advice on what I should get is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tina

I too am a casual (slightly advanced amateur) photographer and have ben using PS Elements for quite a few years. I find it very powerful and adequate for my needs. My current version is 2019. If you decide on PSE, I recommend aldo getting a guide to help you through the more complicated processes you may use. Personally I do nt gain much fro watching videos, such as on youtube, for learning. I prefer the physical book so I can go back and read it as neded, rewinding videos just doesn't cut it for me. I have been using "The Photoshop Elements 15 Book for Digital Photographers" by Scott Kelby. It has been adequate for my PSE 2019. Good luck with your choice of app.

You can download Capture One Express from the Sony website. A customized version is available for Sony users for free. It should do everything you need for editing photos.

Photosjop Elements is a good program. If you gat it I would recommend getting "Elements+" to go with it. It expands the features in Elements and is only $12.

Another good option for you would be Affinity Photo. It is very similar to Photoshop and costs $55 but you may find a sale price available. Like Elements, you buy it once and it is your to use as long as you want with no subscription required.

I began my photo editing with Capture One Express, which came free with my Sony camera. It had a bit of a learning curve, but is a good editor, and if you eventually get the PP bug, you can upgrade to the Pro version, which has greater capability (and cost).

If you want to start with a simple, intuitive editing program, the photo editor that comes with your computer does the basics and may be all you need.

I was in your situation a few years ago and decided to try PhS Elements. Did everything I needed, was easy to learn, and was an all around good experience. Try it, I suspect that you'll like it. Harry

Photoshop Elements has tons of free on-line videos and will do everything you will need to do. I've used it for years and still use it as my main post processing program.

I referenced the how to page that Paintshop-Pro has and it gives step-wise directions vs a video. Videos can be confusing.

Get Photoshop Elements 2021; buy it from Staples or Best Buy, etc. and buy it outright. That way you avoid the annual subscription. It's a great product and offers a lot of function.

Good Luck

To CHG_CANON: Thank you (personally) for the good advice you gave someone for Photoshop Elements. I've been wondering what's wrong with me that it seems so much more complicated than I need/want. I'd rather spend my time with the camera than the computer. I've been shooting for years - have done stock photo. as well as sold many prints, but I always do very little editing. My preference, believe it or not, was the old Microsoft "Picture-It" that used to come free with the computer. I'm sure you'll laugh at that! But it usually took care of what I needed. I've been searching for years for something as simple - yet good and still gives options. When someone asks a question I always search for your answers - not sure if it's because I believe you have all the answers or because I usually agree with you. Ha! Thx.

Thanks RJ! There was another comment, I think in this thread, that referenced Picasa. I haven't used, but people who like 'easy' and 'not complicated' tend to enjoy this tool. It's unsupported software, but when I google "picasa download", it seems to be out there for Windows and possibly Mac.

I'm only finding Capture One Express (for Sony) as a trial version. Sony simply refers you to the Capture One site. Chuck
