I have a bunch of friends who, like me, have fallen in love with the mountain named El Chimborazo. It's the tallest mountain in the world and is an extinct volcano. One year I climbed up on it. I was by myself, so I didn't care go as far as I would have liked.
These were all shot with Agfa Ultra.
Might be the greatest distance from the center of the earth, but not the tallest from its base. That would be Maunakea.
Thanks for these, Kathy...learned something new this morning!!

Thanks, Jederick. Glad you did. Learning is what keeps us going.
That's the Dan Quayle spelling.
(Look up Quayle and potatoe if you don't get it.)
Great shot and interesting information, Kathy!
It just shows that we all can learn something new every day and also, that truth can be different, depending from what basis you are looking at the facts. I never knew that Mount Chimborazo's peak is 6800 feet further from the Earth's center than Mount Everest - Maybe the statement that it is the "tallest mountain" is not quite accurate, but it definitely is the furthest point from the Earth Center. Your statement prompted me to google for the info - thanks for my lesson today!

Thanks, Joe. It's sort of a round-about claim to fame, I know. But people in the area are quite proud of their mountain and are quick to point out the info about it. Having spent a lot of time there, I'm sort of engrained in the history of it.

Thanks. They were a serendipitous addition to the scene.

It is the tallest. Measuring from the center of the earth instead of sea level. Because it sits near the equator, the earth is fatter there.
Earth equatorial bulge is about 43 kilometers (27 miles). The equatorial bulge means that people standing at sea level near the poles are closer to the center of Earth than people standing at sea level near the Equator.Dec 1, 2022

Is the Earth the thickest around the equator?
Yes, if “thickness” is interpreted as the radius or diameter of the Earth.
The diameter of the Earth at the poles is 12714 km or 7900 miles.
At the equator it’s 12,756 km or 7926 miles.
This is due to the spinning of the Earth, which is faster at the equator than the poles, and causes the Earth to not be a true sphere but an “oblate spheroid”. It’s faster at the equator for the same reason that a merry-go-round is faster at the edge than toward its center.
What is the Diameter of Earth?
I once had to write code for satellite sims that corrected for the oblateness of the Earth at varying latitudes. Satellites may have to know this sort of thing so they can know exactly how far they are off the ground, which will vary in a non-equatorial orbit.
A LITTLE RESEARCH HELPS!
I actually don't care about who owns the statistics, who has the right answer--these are very nice shots and I'm glad you found and shared them.
