Peak season at the Everglades.
Terrific captures, William!!
Beautiful photography. I just wish you had checked the box to download and save so I could see beyond thumbnail size downloads of your beautiful shots.
William….. don’t feel bad. It’s been the same this year for a lot of us snowbirds who carry a camera. I find the same thing to be true at the Venice Rookery, Myakka state park, Robinson Preserve, Emerson Point, DeSoto park etc. Dind Darling I understand has been demolished also.
I’ve discussed this issue with the Florida wildlife officials in several places when I’ve seen them in patrol and they’re response has all been the same….. the habitat has taken a direct hit as a result of the major storms and hurricanes as of late. It will take at least 5-10 years before things improve. As a result wildlife is relocating to whatever areas they can.
This is my first time wintering in Everglades City - photo opportunities are frustrating. So much wildlife and so few places to get off the road and take leisurely pictures. Maybe the hurricane destruction is why people are saying that Merritt Island Refuge has way more birds than usual. There’s a road, Loop Road, that’s a little west of Shark Valley that’s a really nice drive, and we’ve had some luck there with gators and birds.
Your photos taken at Shark Valley are wonderful. I do share your sentiment. Shark Valley has not had the variety and amount of birds it used to have, in a couple of years. And I find the Anhinga Trail even more disappointing.
