Or one could admire it as it stands.

As one who has viewed all sort of artistic composites, it is dependent on the photographer's vision.

The work involved making the composite to the point that it becomes hard to critique in that one has to understand the purpose for the work. The example in this thread is done very well. And this was a start. The paths flowing out are many. (One suggestion: Show the shadows of the foreground blocks unto the moon. )

Let's see more.

I agree with your camera club. Quite a few incongruencies.

This is a composite. Foreground shot many years ago with a Canon S70. Moonshot taken recently with Canon SX60. Sky replacement (moon) done with Luminar. I am looking for opinions. BTW my camera club did not like it at all.

look fine to me , but moon a little too bright , a slightly yellow moon might improve the mood of the picture ????

Although some of the opinions are rather harsh, I agree with some of them.
Please accept these opinions as constructively as possible and learn from the ones that make sense to you.
I do applaud you for taking the first step to improving your pics by posting them and not being too thin-skinned.
Another positive is that you are showing your creative side.
Remember, we were all where you are once. I'm still amazed at some of the work I see posted on UHH.
Be your own critic and strive to see where you can improve your skills with exposure, composition, and post-processing.

I think you need to find another camera club! As others have said, this is obviously a composite and not a "real world' photograph. As such, it can be whatever YOU want it to be. Wrong shadows??? Edgey moon??? Crop here, crop there??? I like it for what it is, eye catching!!

I like the colors, but I think the moon being oversized diminishes the potential of the photo. The red earth reminds me of Mars in a good way. Is that Arkansas red clay?

I like the photo and am a fan of composites as they remind me of some of the 70's album covers back in the day. Keep experimenting. You never know what you will come up with. I did a train composite that blew my mind when I was done. Have also done some for weddings that people loved.

Other than just being unrealistic, the composite is fine, nearly perfect. It seems there's just a bit too much space on the left side. I'd try having the margin cut through the bush just a bit higher, through the first branch point upward rather than keeping that horizontal section leaving the frame. Try pulling-in the upper left corner to adjust just slightly the left margin and top margin of the frame.

The back-light of that left-side bush is probably the least realistic portion as the lighting is from the wrong direction to create that backlight from the moon's position. Though, painting-out that back-light might be impossible to accomplish for a better result.

You might look too at the blending of the left-side of the moon's circle. The right-side blends more naturally into the black of night as compared to the jagged edge of the left-side.

For me, it's the shadows of the rocks pointing toward the moon - the obvious source of light. Still an interesting composition, however. And remember, that before cameras all pictures were compositions.

If you are anything like me, you will be sorely disappointed! I graduated from High School in Flagstaff, a short drive north of Sedona, in 1972. It's ruined now!!

Interesting, I perceived the shadow from the rocks as from the sun setting on the right.
Which I thought was quite obvious.
