1. I have all my Spectrum email sent to me through Gmail. At 9:23, I received an email in the Spectrum account that didn't show up in Gmail. I've refreshed both programs, but it's still not in Gmail. Any ideas why? The email is from a friend, and I used to get it all the time in my Gmail.
2. I got an email from American Express. For some reason, I have two different accounts. One I hardly ever use, and the other one has never been used. They are going to cancel the "never" account, and they say that could have a negative impact on my credit score. If I use the card, they will keep the account alive. How much of an impact would that cancelation cause?
If you close the account I don't think it will affect your rating. Actually, the e-mail is probably not even from AE. Never answer these e-mails thru their "click below" buttons. I call them independently with the number on the back of the card

Did you check the spam folder in your Gmail account?

American Express accounts usually have an annual fee. Are you paying for two accounts, one of which you never use?
It is possible that having a credit card cancelled by the issuer might lower your credit score, especially if it's an old account and cancelling it reduces the length of your overall credit history. In addition, closing the account will reduce the amount of available credit you have, and if this causes your credit utilization ratio to exceed 30% (meaning that you're using more than 30% of your total available credit), your credit score will go down.

For some reason, I'm not paying for either of these cards. I'm surprised that Amex has maintained them for so long. I put a charge on the one in question, so I'll keep it.
Back in 1974, we were living in England for a few months, and American Express became our mailing address. Whenever we were in London, we'd stop in and get our mail. Things were really cheap back then. I got a Harris tweed jacket for $35 and an overcoat for $42. Over the years, it got to the point where it was less expensive to buy those things in the US.
No fee American Express credit cards are not unusual. I had a "gold" or "silver" account for a few years that was a no fee promotion and gave me miles on Delta Airlines. When the no fee provision expired, I said I was not going to continue, so they offered me a no fee "blue" card which I still use. I still get the Delta miles. My wife and I are going to the Caribbean this winter for practically nothing.

The Best and the Worst things I have is good Credit!!!, I finally got out of debt 5 years ago. I now pay my CC bill as soon as the charge is posted.

What I hate is looking at my account and seeing recent purchases listed as "Pending." You can't pay a charge until it's been posted.

For safety sake call the number on the back of your card if you want to cancel. There are more scams that look like the real thing than you can imagine. In the end they are looking for banking info. I just went through this with McAfee. Be smart…be safe.

I read somewhere a while back that YOU should close the account, not the CC company. If they do it, it counts as a bad mark on your credit score. AND, be sure to tell them to notify the credit agencies that it was YOU who closed it.
Probably won’t make much of a difference as you have never used the card but it won’t hurt.

Closing a credit card account reduces your total borrowing power by the limit of the account and hence could affect your credit score but usually not much.

I paid off and closed 4 credit cards approx. 4 years ago and it has not hurt my credit score a bit, in fact it has improved, but I now pay the balance as soon as it is posted.

That makes sense. I did make a purchase with the card to maintain it.

Yes you can. If you have a pending amount of say $75.35 then just deposit that amount into your CC account. The moment it become not pending it will instantly be paid. Any CC account should allow you run with a credit if necessary.
