Interesting barn, John. Looks quite large, so I can only imagine how long it took to construct with that narrow siding. Couldn't help but notice that you don't seem to have any significant accumulation of snow.
I have been looking at this old red barn for a time now and finally shot it the other day from three different angles. It’s a traditional side drive with a gambrel roof and has interesting siding in that it is very narrow compared to most barns in this area.
The downloads are sharper.
The gable end of this barn reveals its basic construction. The paint indicates the entire wall is of balloon construction. Such construction is unusual for barns but it was widely used for houses. The wall very possibly was built laying flat and then raised into place. As previously mentioned the siding boards are not the usual type, these are very narrow. Notice the two different sized windows on two sides. This building may have been originally built as someone's house and later converted to a storage barn. The siding shows greater age but the frame is still true and straight indicating it may be newer than its siding. As usual, you have given us another grand old piece of rural Americana. Thanx.

WOW! Love the pix and to me, this shows how differently we see things. In the first shot, to me, it looks like a small barn. The second shot shows just how massive it is!

Thanks for the photo comment. We haven’t had much snow at all, a couple inches in November, about five just before Christmas, an inch or so here and there, and three a week or so ago. Some warm weather off and on has melted it all, and we are really in need of some precipitation.
